[Need advice]What CPU should I get?

Its alright. A new revolution will happen and games will just need a tiny little cube shaped thingy on a motherboard the size of a deck of cards. AMD and Intel are both going down. Serious, where are the light based CPU's?

You don't need 8 cores.

What apps do you use ?

For all desktop stuff and games all you need is 4 core.

8 core only if you do Video Editing, Premiere, AutoCad, Studiomax, Maya, or DAW

If you have a multiple monitor setup I can imagine scenarios where eight cores would come in handy. cpu intensive game running while browsing with multiple tabs and dinking around with photoshop for example.

Fast efficient eight core cpu's would be nice though.

I rarely dink around in photoshop while I'm gaming.
