OK. here is the situation. my IN-laws are always strapped for money. they live off my father-in-laws SSDI (Social security Disability income). which is not much. But to my surprise i found out they are doing good and making all the bill payments and there credit is getting good again.

Well my sister-in-law is living with a guy. I can't stand the guy. he claims he has done a lot of stuff which is not true. such as claiming to know a lot of "professional" wrestlers and such. Also that he has owned a few business's.

well one of the business's he claims to own is a chemical company. Once a month he drives into Chicago and picks up chemicals and delivers them and gets paid (he claims) $5k in cash. But they are always broke. though they have a huge king cab Chevy diesel he says the "company" owns.

Anyway.

He talked my in-laws into opening a shop in Rockford with him. So (i think. not 100% proven) the in-laws go and get a loan (not sure if personal or business) and they rent out a store and have purchased 7 laptops (for 4 workers) at least 8 desk phones (have cell phones now) etc.

now the wife and I are worried because my Father-IN-law is listed as CEO (remember this guy is on SSDI. and he has trouble remembering his address half the time). they say its no big deal because he is getting paid under the table (well will get paid. they have not made any money yet).

they are talking about getting CC in the business's name and such. Also my sister-in-law and her boyfriend were asking me about HDTV's. they are planning on buying 2 for the house (even though they can't afford it).

I should also point out my Mother-in-law has CC and other bills in her 15 yr old daughters name. i am worried they are going to do something and screw up her credit and the kid they just adopted (like a week ago).

so are we just being paranoid? i hate to see my Father-in-law get screwed out of his SSDI. the guy is just happy to be working and doing something. The guy is not to bright so i doubt he really understands what can happen.

Also is there a place i can call to have someone to check in on him? i think my mother in law and my sister in law are takeing advantage of him and the situation.

2/8

UPDATE newst thing

Seems my SIL and her boyfriend are buying a horse farm in PAW PAW IL. a 5acre property with barn.

we are really shocked. first off my SIL is on welfare/public aid etc. So how could they afford it?

His only job is the business. Far as we know it does not if it has made any money. but something must be going on.

i guess they go and sign closeing cost on teh 1s tof next month.

it just gets stranger and stranger.

I did a what looking i could on the guys name. but didnt find anything.

but then again maybe it is on the up and up.

2/28 update

OK. even more neat stuff!

the house is a no go. come to find out it was not a loan but a "rent to buy" teh guy wanted a few grand up front and they couldnt afford it. so the houe is done.

And so is the business already. I guess my SIL boyfriend took them in and told them they were "fired". Then cleared out the "shop" claiming they lost the lease (says they were on a month to month). he says the landlord kicked them out because the guy next to them wanted that space for more office space.

so bringing any of this up starts arguements heh. Not sure if my in-laws are out of money since they refuse to say.

Well, if they're getting paid under the table and not paying their business taxes, you can bet the IRS is going to come down on them like a ton of bricks next year.

that sounds very odd/not right
not sure how you can fix it, if they have all already committed fraud to get loans/CC's
good luck

this right here is where the warning alarms should be going off.

this is not going to end well for your father in law.

thats what i'm afraid of.

whats annoying is my MIL should know better. she just keeps saying he is going to be paid under the table so not to worry.

just hate to see him and my younger SIL get screwed.

they keep trying to get me and my wife to join the business. we are staying far far away.

It's nice how their credit is interconnected enough so that this situation could screw over everyone in the family.

Get a background check on the guy and see what shows up.

we already know the guy has a past. he was in county lockup for while. has a kid he never sees and bad credit.

What kind of store/business is this? Of course this is all fishy and a scam. Hopefully, your relatives don't all end-up in jail.

I have an Uncle that did something similar to us. My dad loaned him a lot of money to start a business and my Uncle went bankrupt within 6 months. We lost over $20,000 and were then forced to sell our house because it was too expensive to maintain. My father had retired a few years earlier. That money would have allowed us to keep the house in the family for inheritance purposes. Getting a judgment against him was next to pointless. He owed a number of friends and relatives a lot of money.

Let this be a lesson.

That seems like a very plausible assumption. I would do whatever you possibly can to convince your mother and father in-laws to not go forward, back out, whatever. Even so far as to try to get your wife to obtain some sort of power of attorney from them.

Any business where you're listed as CEO, required a good sum of startup and then pays you under the table is going to be shady to the Nth degree. I'd worry about your f-i-l going to prison as much as being busted by the IRS.

If you're totally unable to help. Try gather papers, recordings, anything to cover your in-law's asses that shows they're being scammed.

oh this reminds me of another story he guy keeps telling us. My SIL purchased a trailer right downt he street from my MIL (she paid $10k for it). well she had her boyfriend move in like year ago or so.

well my SIL was going to file for bankruptcy. so he convinced her to put the trailer in his name so they wouldnt take it. Also he claims to own a house (not sure where) but they stay in the trailer.

My warning alarms went off when the b-i-l gets paid $5K cash for delivering "chemicals".

this has "stay the hell away" written all over it.

The best thing you could do might be to contact a good attorney for advice.

Think of it this way. If your wife's parents lose their trailer, who's door do you think they're gonna be knocking on for a roof over their heads?

This doesn't pass the smell test. Watch as your sister-in-law and her live-in end up with nice things and your father-in-law takes it on the chin.

Your mother-in-law is already committing fraud by getting CCs in her daughter's name. She's jumping at the under the table money because she's thinking she's going to beat the system, which she has proven she has no qualms about. Meanwhile, the live-in BF is a better scammer and is going to use her greed to lure them in and make out on the deal big time. The BF is using your father-in-law as a figurehead because he has good credit. If it wasn't for that, he'd have no interest in your father-in-law.

I think the BF is going to milk the family credit for all it's worth.

I don't know what role your sister-in-law has in all this... maybe she's being scammed by her BF as well.

Even without the BF's shady history, this whole situation looks very odd.

The BF tried really hard when Erich was gone to get me to sign up for things to do with the business using Erich's name. He told me that it was legal because we are married.

There's another set of alarm bells right there. When you say "sign up for things", you mean credit?

I second getting a PI to investage the 5k "chemical" deals. If i were you I would try to back far far far FAR away from this, it can't be anything good.
