Short version: you'll either get up and be there on time, or you'll be quickly unemployed. If you ask for a change, they'll laugh at you.

Working a Saturday is probably not at the top of a lot of people's list of fun things to do, but you're the new guy - suck it up & go in. Some day there'll be a new new guy, and you can take some Sats off :)

If you haven't put your time in yet, than I would plan on getting a very loud alarm clock. When you took employment there, you made an obligation to them, and you probably should have discussed hours with them. You could ask for the swap, but that will really start you off on the wrong foot with them. I'ld just suck it up. Sorry.

Shouldn't you have discussed you hours with your boss before starting work?

eh, i'm sorry but waking up on a saturday is not a big enough deal to ask for a reschedule... just get up and work. and next time you're looking for a job, get one where you can work from home :)

It all comes down to how much you need the employment. Right now with the economy the way it is they'll likely laugh in your face if you try to change it. They know they can replace you in a heartbeat.

Now is not a good time to be lazy & unmotivated.

If you're working retail, you're working weekends. You didn't say anything about Sundays - count your blessings if you're not working them as well.

You people who bitch and moan about "I don't wanna work on Saturday" make me sick. I grew up on a farm where it was Work all day from dawn to dusk 6 days a week. My grandfather used to tell me that if GOD could work 6 days then man should too. But you never worked on Sundays.

Be glad you are employed, and do what it takes to keep the job. If they want you to scrub toilets, then do it. With the "EMPLOYERS MARKET" economy we have right now, be glad you have a job.

What makes you think you know what they'll do. They can work out a schedule that works better for him. If they really need him to work on a Saturday, i'm sure he will. Maybe you're too lazy and unmotivated to realize that it took some motivation for this kid to get a job in the first place. I guess you like to bend over at work and have the managers f*ck you in the ass all the time too, huh?

I grew up on a farm too and we sure as h*ll worked on Sundays, those animals had to eat and get cleaned up etc. Maybe Sunday was a little looser sometimes but if it rained Monday thru Saturday and Sunday was the sunny day we got the hay in, no matter what.

Re the Job Situation: do what they ask, but make sure they know (in a NICE way but they know) that you are bending over backwards to come in at a time that you made clear you were not available. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments , indeed ur right , it took me a while to get a job because i have so much school work that i had no time to even think about working , plus i have to pay my own stupid dsl bill which makes it even harder because all the money will go towards the stupid bills and not me.

when I was in college, I worked my ass off in the bookstore, doing everything from shipping/receiving and textbook floor, starting from 7am sometimes. Especially during the beginning of the quarter, we basically have to work 12-16 hour shifts because it was so busy! You are lucky to have a job at Circuit City, standing around selling stuff....ever carried a 100lb box of books???? Also, if they gave me more hours, I'd just take it, more money for me and more overtime!

Like everyone says, stop bitching and straighten your priorities. And please, don't even try to compare school with actual work. Having a job is about 10x more stressful than going to school. You don't finish an assignment for a class, oh well make it up next time. You don't finish a project, you're canned.
