Ok, I concede. You are right Russ. It IS a company to company policy on what they reveal. I just read the information on http://employment-law.freeadvice.com/hiring/ and it confirms what you and a few others said. My error was beleiving that it was law when my last manager told me that he wasn't allowed to comment on the worker's perfomance after he fired him it was law, instead of store policy. Damn, I hate being wrong too...

By the way. There is a ton of good information as far as what your legal rights are before you are fired/hired and what you can do in certain situations. While I make to their accuracy, I think they seem to be fairly on the mark in the diffrent situations. Good luck.

You are not alone in believing it. Like I said, it's a common misconception. I have the benefit of having been an HR director for five years.

I hope you havent stole anything from your workplace if you do get a polygraph(pens, notepads, etc.) I wouldnt doubt they would ask something like" Have you EVER stolen anything from the company" or something.

Reminds me of a saying, "Never point a finger at someone else. When you do , there are 3 fingers pointing back at you!" Yuck, yuck :D
Your accuser incriminates hisself, he was probably already questioned. Oh, its also true that someone who knew where eveything was, wine, etc. is a more likely candidate. You'd think they knew that. I think they was just tryin to bust your b@lls, dude. Sometimes any event can be used to play a power game. I'd keep an eye out but not worry too much. that We had some cell phones disappear and no one was really questioned because it couldn't be pinpointed in any way. But if it could have been, let's say I had gone into that office I am sure I would have heard about it, not because they thought I would've swiped it, but because it was an opportunity to show who was boss.

If you get fired....get a lawyer, you can get your job back if you DIDN'T steal anything, and there is no proof...

I would try not to make a federal case out of this. Your company knows what they can get away with and with everyone sue crazy, they'll tread carefully. You may wish to call the state board of labor or whatever it's called, and ask them what your rights are concerning these issues. If your rights are being violated, they are usually more than happy to set in.

Sounds to me like you have a guilty conscience and you're trying to cover your butt. If you ripped somebody off admit it and take the consequences.
