There are SO MANY fun and interesting short topics for 3-5 mins.

Be smart and avoid politics and religion.

I go to a private school and it is for an english class

Other kids have done people they know, sports, singers and stupid stuff like that.

I think R/C cars would get most people's attention since I have to have a visual aid which would be an R/C Car

Especially if you tie in your RC car LiPo batter technology with the current crop of electric/hybrid cars save the planety stuff. Guaranteed A with tree hugger stuff thrown in there.

I was asked to do a slightly longer length presentation on something I was passionate about for a job interview, and I did one on "the loudness wars". I liked doing it, and they really liked it.
