My old university account is probably going to go away in a few months. I have been using an e-mail alias that forwards to my university account for years, so that is a good preparation step, but I need to get a new e-mail account setup.

I use POP mail, have a severe distrust of the rr.com services in my area (yes, my home has their cable service, but I do not want to use their e-mail services due to reliability/portability concern), and am shopping for something else. I have noticed posts about e-rice.net hosting, which is certainly a fair rate at $10/yr for added webhosting stuff, but I have to wonder about their longevity. I also came across a link to godaddy.com e-mail/webmail hosting for the same rate. I recognize the name, which is a good sign, but I want to hear what others suggest. Please, something you use, have used for a while, or know to be very reliable and long term (but not hotmail.com or mail.com spammy type domains).

So, yes, I'm willing to pay a small amount for e-mail services. I want the place to not generate spam the way hotmail services would. I want it not to filter off attachments that are of reasonable length (if I want to send 10 mb, let me... I know what I'm doing).

I know there's at least 100+ people here who have a domain and would be very generous about donating an e-mail account, but that's one more level away from the source, which is what I do not want. I want to pay, I want to be able to hold onto this account for many years, and I want it to just work (why I will not use the rr.com one I get for free...... stupid blinky "cable" light).

I appreciate any responses suggeting a company with a track record and reasonable prices on what I'm looking for.

I have been suspicious of e-rice.net however they have had several happy customers post their positive experiences.

Unfortunately there is no way to predict which webhosts will be around in 5 years. For instance once thriving and popular InfoBeen and FeaturePrice are OUT OF BUSINESS (according to several WHT threads). Even my favorite webhosts addaction.net and dathorn.com could go out of business next year for whatever reason(s), that's the risks we take.

It's important though that you register the domain you're going to be using for e-mail with a DOMAIN REGISTRAR. Do not register your domain with some fly by night company or your webhost, go with NameCheap.com or GoDaddy.com

If it were me and I wanted steady permanent e-mail with a little bit of webhosting ... my choice would be RippleHost.com for $5/yr. It comes with webmail (NeoMail or Horde) for free, pre-installed and since you have 100MB webspace which can all be used for your webmail, it should more than suit your needs.
