heh if you can find a citzen, seicko, bulova, or antyhign liek that for that price go for it! but i thought the name brands would be higher than $150 except maybe for Swatch who does have some nice watches.
Might want to check out designer brand watches like guess, fossil, kenneth cole, etc they have some decent offerings.
ALSO find an outlet mall with a watch store or somewhere online they tend to be cheaper they carry outdated and discontinued models for far less and often Mall jewelry stores carry the same watches for FAR more!!!!
I myself have a Bulova: Marine Star that set me back $450 a few years back

Funny you mention that - I've always wanted one of these, but they're currently sold out, and command $300+ even on the used market.

I wouldn't worry TOO much about the concerns you raise, above, WRT automatic watches. Once they settled in, none of my automatic watches gained or lost more than a few seconds a day. A typical automatic watch (say, one powered by the venerable Seiko 7S26) will have a 48-hour power reserve once fully charged, so it won't stop with normal wearing. You may need to reset it if you leave it sitting for a while, however.

As you've already intuitively figured out, the Citizen Eco-Drive and Seiko Kinetic watches combine some of the positive attributes of automatic and quartz watches (self-powered, more accurate than a mechanical), but be aware that they also have some of the same negatives (they will eventually lose their charge, though their power reserve is much longer than a mechanical watch).

For me, quartz watches are too dull, and the only quartz watch I own is a Casio G-Shock Wave-Ceptor Solar Atomic (whew!), which I thought would be a neat acquisition - unfortunately I never wear it!

Nice watch.

Currently wearing a Seiko Kinetic, waiting for when I can spend some money on a nice watch.

I bought mine while it was still at 100. Check f@twallet.com - there might be an additional coupon ($8 of $80 or somesuch) floating around somewhere.

I found the styling on this one to feel contemporary, yet mature and simple enough that it
a.)doesn't draw attention to itself
b.)won't look dated in 5-10 years (imho - time will tell)

I also did *NOT* want a seiko diver, for the simple reason that it LOOKS like a seiko diver.

While I'm not sure of the specific movement (21 jewel japanese), I'm pretty sure it's a miyota (same as seiko)

added a pic. My pics not as fancy as most from the photographers here, but I thought it was important to show that the bezel is rounded and brushed - which doesn't show up too well in the link above. Not quite as shiny as in my photo, but definitely more reflective than in the one above.

ok I usually read the entire post... and I'm hoping someone already corrected you..

but a miyota movement is NOT the same as a seiko in-house movement.

You can have your cheapass orients... I'll stick with seiko's thank you.

/edit
I suppose this is a matter of opinion... but seiko diver's certainly won't look dated in 20-30 years.. let alone 5-10. their skx007 divers still have 'some' resemblance to their much older 6105 divers... and many MANY of those 6015's are still ticking... as are the slightly newer 6309's... but again.. just an opinion

I'm surprised myself.. my watch doesn't look thick at all, but when I measured it, it really was 10mm..

Now I'm torn between the tan and black version of this.. I guess I've made a decision to just get an automatic since I've been reading so much about how everyone must "experience" an automatic 🙂 Plus this guy's price seems pretty good

the tan WILL be difficult to read. the face and hands are nearly the same color.

also.. most auto's are goign to be thicker than a quartz... worth it though imho...

good choice on the 5's though..

It looks like you are correct. A quick google shows that Citizen uses (is the same company?) Miyota movements. I must have misread some information somewhere to come to the conclusion that seiko used miyota movements.

wow. harsh, dude. I know it's cheap - I bought it from overstock.

The fact that Don Vito did not bother to make a remark on it one way or another suggests that it is not highly rated by watch afficionados 😉 (though apparently orient's in-house movements do garner a modicum of respect in those circles)

Actually I was referring to the seiko 5's - many of which already look - to my eye - like something from the late 60's. And not in a good "fashionable retro" way, either 🙂

I didn't say the divers were antiquated, I said they were distinctly recognizable. Quite frankly, the reason I don't want a seiko diver is because my father wore them.

Edit: Also, it's apparently not germane to the subject of seiko watches, but wrt the concern over automatic movement, my orient gains 5 seconds a day.

FWIW (not that I'm the world's expert), Orient is a quality manufacturer IMO, and their watches are generally well-regarded. Personally I have tended not to care for their aesthetics, but the higher-end lines (Orient Stars, for example) are handsome, high-quality watches.
