What's a good analog watch for about $150 or less? It should preferably be quiet too.. my current watch's ticking is driving me crazy. I'm thinking about getting the Seiko 5 but I'm not sure..
I'm currently using a 1999 Swatch Irony.
Things I like about it:
- It's aluminum so it's very light
- the size.. slightly less than 1 1/2 inches, and 10mm thick
- design - plain and simple - the 3 hands, day and date indicator (like it's "SUN 27" today)
- not sure about reliabilty - but it's working perfectly after a few years
Things I don't like:
- face is not scratch proof (pretty badly scratched now)
- second hand doesn't always align to the second markers
- bracelet also scratches easily (because it's aluminum)
- damn ticking noise.. but i can only hear it every once in a while
- not a big issue.. but it uses batteries.
Things I'm looking for:
- Bracelet that doesn't stink - so rubber and leather are out of the question?
- Light - I was thinking about getting one of the titanium models.. but I've read that it scratches easily too?
- not too thick
- automatic movement.. I prefer not to worry about batteries.
- not important.. but night visibility would be nice
I think I've basically narrowed down to Seiko and Citizen watches.
Some other questions:
- What do you guys think of those canvas straps that the military models use? I kinda like the design of the watches.. but I don't think canvas straps will be comfortable at all
- Is a 23-jewel watch "better" than a 21-jewel? Why or why not?
