"IF YOU PURCHASED NUTELLA IN CALIFORNIA BETWEEN AUGUST 1, 2009 AND JANUARY 23, 2012, OR IN ANY OTHER STATE BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 2008 AND FEBRUARY 3, 2012, YOU MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A PAYMENT FROM A PROPOSED CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT."

I would add "... and were gullible enough to believe that eating a hazelnut-based chocolate sandwich spread was healthy ..."

"As a result of a recent class action lawsuit filed against Nutella over falsely alleging that its hazelnut spread could be considered a health food, customers who purchased Nutella are entitled to receive up to a $20 cash settlement. (You get $4 per jar purchased during the eligible period, for up to five jars.) To claim your money, fill out this form:"

How about you? Would you have believed that Nutella (as good/bad as it tastes) was a "healthy" food?

3.5 grams of it saturated fat
21g of sugar

Well it does have 4% of your daily requirement of calcium and 4% iron. That is what makes it healthy.

Class action suits like this make me sick to my stomach. Some lawyer group probably banked 1.5 million....Nutella prices go up, and people are still just as dumb as they always were and likely will take that $20 and go to McDonalds and spend it on a "healthy" grilled chicken sammich with 1500mg of sodium in it.

I hate humanity.

When did they ever market that stuff as healthy?

There was a commercial that aired that talked about the healthy things you could spread Nutella on (whole wheat toast, bananas, etc.). While they didn't specifically say that Nutella was healthy, it was implied and since people are stupid, we're left with a lawsuit.

On a side note, I had a Nutella cupcake last night. It was delicious.

Due to my love for nutella, I refuse to partake in this lawsuit.

I don't think it has ever been advertised as healthy, just as a way to put it on something healthy so it does not taste bad. I like it a lot, but I only use about 1 tablespoon for two slices of toast. I have read the nutrition label, so I know it is not healthy. :roll;

Yeh, I've got a jar in my desk right now. What's the first ingredient? Sugar. Second ingredient? Palm oil.

Geee...Sugar + Oil are the first two ingredients. If you think that's healthy then please punch yourself in the genitals. Repeatedly.

I used to work with a woman who ate nutella out of the jar with a spoon and claimed her weight issues were medical-related.

like it or not its pretty common misconception, i remember a british food show where they went out on the street asking people, most folks had no idea it wasn't like peanut butter, like it or not thats the misconception that makes the stuff so popular, when its frankly little more than chocolate frosting.

Using your logic anyone who actually thinks that eating Nutella (or other known unhelathy foods) is "healthy" should repeatedly pummel their naughty bits until they lose consciousness. At that point these people would no longer physically be able to procreate ... therefore not allowing them to pass on their genes.

I like it ...

The amount of sugar is one thing (way too much, peanut butter is far better in that regard), but don't gloss over the importance of the actual fat content.

Based on the ingredients involved, it should have a good quantity of some quality unsaturated fatty acids.

If you look at peanut butter, at first it can look pretty unhealthy too: 16g fat, 3g of which is saturated fat.
Terribly unhealthy, eh?! Not so fast. That stuff is very good for you... for the most part.

Far too many people are ignorant of what is actually important in nutrition, what can be okay in moderation, and how some of that actually benefits the body in the long run.

Hell, one thing I read somewhere just now, as a slam against Nutella, is that the fat content "slows digestion."
That can be a good thing - especially for anything high in sugar, as that helps slow down all digestion in the stomach and thus can prevent massive blood sugar spikes. And depending on the specific fatty acids involved, some of those helps control parts of your lipids in serum profile ("cholesterol"), may help with neural processes, and are involved in cellular construction (so you need them anyway, and the body cannot make them, hence why some are "Essential Fatty Acids").

If it wasn't for the fact that Nutella is mostly sugar (THIS IS WHY IT'S "BAD" ... imho) it would be a great snack. Slow to digest, for a snack, is great - it's more filling/fulfilling, so you don't feel the need to munch down a ton of food or keep coming back for more over a short period of time. Same reason why almonds (OMG SO FATTY!!!!!!) are super good for you as a snack... and I won't get into a nutritional analysis of the more detailed reasons why almonds are really, really, really good for you... in moderation.

Of course, most sound nutritional advice also requires some iota of physical activity in your life - because you can use up the food energy of "bad nutrients" and give you body every excuse to process and utilize every beneficial chemical thrown it's way. All of that helps to regular various health variables in your body, and some of those chemicals really help play a role in your "mental health/well-being." And if one is active, sugars and saturated fats can actually be quite useful - if consumed in proper portions and at the right time of day for your physiological needs.

They have a few commercials where it's implied that it can be part of healthy breakfast. Since most people are generally pretty stupid, they saw it as, "OMG Nutella is healthy! Let's put it on everything!"

Nutella is akin to spreading frosting on your toast. There are hazelnut alternatives that taste way better and have a better nutritional profile.
Justin's Nut Butter is my favorite. Expensive, but very delicious.http://www.justinsnutbutter.com/

On their commercials. The mom feeds it to her kids as a "healthy snack."

I could take it or leave it, but I introduced the stuff to my wife and kids last year, now they're addicted. It's like putting chocolate frosting on your toast/bagel/crackers/or eating it right out of the jar.

Commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThIrw_LpuRA

There wasn't a single health claim made. There were a couple vague inferences, but anyone who doesn't critically analyze advertising bullshit deserves what they get.

Nutella is awesome, I'm not going to sue them because their marketing department is a bunch of lying assholes.

If we were going to start suing companies who have marketing departments who lie, we'd pretty much have to sue every corporation with a marketing department.
