(NECRO) Ughh I hate this monster gap in my teeth, should I get front teeth

So I have a fairly noticeable gap between my two front teeth that I got from my mother's side of the family. It is a little less than 1/8th of an inch wide.
I had braces to fix my bite and it temporarily shut the gap, which came back once I started to "wear" (on and off) a retainer for a few years.
I've been told I could get my teeth "bonded", which I thought at first meant something to close the gap, but is actually adding fake tooth to the inside vertical edge of each tooth to close the gap. My teeth are pretty small as it is, so it probably wouldn't look way too wide or strange to redcuce or close the gap comepletely with synthetic tooth added to each side.
Any idea how much this would cost? Anyone had it done?

I have a similar thing & there's a little muscle grown down into the area..

The doc said someone would need to

(1) Cut the muscle
(2) Since my bite is good right now on top and bottom someone of them might need to cut somehow to make room
(3) Move them teeth around
(4) Bondo time!

I decided that perhaps since I can eat well now without someone completely destroying my teeth that maybe it wasn't worth messing around with.

I think the doc also commented on the fact that they might be move back again and that if he just bondoed the teeth I might look like a beaver too.

I never got to the price part of the discussion.

I have the same thing. Had braces about 10 years ago, but the gap returned.

maybe you can see if you can get a tiny wire on the back of your teeth, so that people don't see it

you may have to go braces for a few weeks or months

I have almost the exact same problem, except mine is smaller than that. May'be about 1/16th or just a lil bit bigger.
I was going to have my teeth bonded, or slightly enlarged on each side so that they would touch, and I believe it would have been around 1400 dollars. They actually have to grind down your teeth and cap them with porcelain.
I had one tooth done, because it was broken. And that came out to $900. I should have had them both done, I feel so stupid for passing it up.
I really dislike my teeth, but other people say they don't even notice it. It's just in my head that it looks bad.

Guys with gaps in their teeth are the funniest things ever. I knew this kid in school with crooked teeth problems, so his orthodontist slapped in some braces, and they made them even worse. Now he's got a huge gap in his teeth and his orthodontist is still trying to fix them. Haven't seen him for a while but I think its getting better.

I had the same thing, I mulled it over for years and years. My wife said she hardly even noticed it, but it always bothered me.

One day I asked my Dentist, he said sure, no problem. 2 weeks later I had veneers, 4 teeth, $650 each. It was a chunk of money, but I was really glad I did it. I probably could have shopped around and found a better deal or something, but it doesnt make much a difference to me.

So from someone that was there, do it. Dont wait until you are almost 40 as I did. I really, really regret not doing it sooner.

There are many ways to close diastemas, or gaps, between anterior teeth. Each technique is dependent upon the cause and size of the gap. When considering closing anterior space, please make sure you consider your entire smile line and profile. If your teeth are already small, closing the gap might cause your smile to look worse than it originally did.

Just call a few dentists in your area, try to get an average price via the phone, or even go in and have it looked at.

Dental work is very subjective. Most dentists will not quote a price over the phone. You need to go in and have the situation evaluated.

Don't sweat it. My Brother has a gap in his teeth. I used to laugh. It's his character now. Suits him. Girls always thought so to. The problem with porcelain is the colour will always, always be noticably off. Always.

oh.. probably 30. but age my age isn't likely to be relevant, it was pretty much the same time I got the teeth! the first one didn't come in until I was 29. that's bound to be on the late side of normal..

I have the same problem. Gap is about 1/8" maybe a hair smaller. Lately I've given some thought to finally getting it "fixed" but haven't yet motivated myself to speak with a cosmetic dentist. I figure having them bonded would probably result in abnormally wide looking front teeth (hmm, should be easy enough to test that theory using photoshop). At age 32, I can't be bothered to wear braces for the next N years, either.
