(NECRO) Any chance my Nissan Altima will make it past 200,000 miles?

Certainly not engines, even without considering sludge.

i'd beg to differ. i've seen with my own eyes at least 3 toyotas with more than 500,000 miles on them, all running perfectly. ever see that top gear with the ancient toyota truck that they simply could not kill?

I dunno...I prefer Nissan engines and chassis/suspension over Toyota by a long shot.

however, I do prefer toyota's overall build quality.

And this is from someone whose driven two nissans and two toyotas extensively (Maxima, 240SX, Corolla, Camry). Right now the current combo is the Camry and Maxima.

Just about any car made with in the last 10 hell even 20 years should make 200k miles without anything huge dying with even halfway decent care. Alot of the even older ones don't have any problems doing it. 200k miles isn't really that much.

I have to redo my student teaching. I would have been done but I had some issues that need to be resolved before I graduate.

I would say that is true of Imports but not American vehicles.

I pulled into work this morning and Tranny started slipping. I opened the hood and found Tranny fluid was full but had Oil in it and smelled burnt.

Just had an Oil change 2 weeks ago, checked Oil next and found it off the stick and smells burnt too.

1998 Caravan 110,000 miles.

Of course. Most of them can hit that if taken care of properly. I sold my 93 sentra with 181k miles. I'd intended to buy new when it died but it was showing no signs of ending its life, so I just sold it in instead. For all I knew it was going to hit 300k or more!

Failures at life generally pwn themselves so I don't have to...

My friend in high school had a maxima that broke down after 270,000 miles. He was very disappointed it didn't make it to 300K.

Did he keep the car in good shape?

My 2000 Altima has over 218,000 and still trucking along. Not the prettiest thing to look at, but gets me where I need to go.😀

Interesting half the old posters in this thread are banned.

Too bad OP's banned. he can't tell us if the car made it.

Personal anecdote: my Nissan made it to 180k miles when I ran into a wall in the rain. Junked it.

My brother's late-90s altima is well past 200k. He's a delivery driver for one of those "grub hub" type businesses (I forget the exact name.)

It's starting to rust out though.

I have a 2003 corolla with 155k on it and it is going strong. Never had to do anything to it except change the brakes, oil, and tires.

Wife and I also own a 2009 Murano LE. It has 80k on it and except for the RIDICULOUSLY expensive tires (~$330 a pop for OEM tires/ ~$250 a pop for decent aftermarkets - odd size) is going great.
