Pulled this deal from out of my "wallet."

Staples is selling the NEC Multisync 97F flat screen19" monitor for $280. Use the $50 off 200 coupons to bring that down to $230. There's also a $50 dollar mail in rebate that brings it down to $180 AR. As far as I know, shipping is free and it's in stock.

Actually, I picked one up for the same deal at Circuit City. The Staples only has the Beige color monitor in stock. I noiced on the rebate the Circuit City is also listed. They have the black version in stock. Well, I wanted to see the monitor myself and so went down o the local CC to check it out myself. It has an 18 inch viewable and a .20-24 dot pitch. I ran a few short video clips and the colors looked great. Skintones were fine. Geometry also looked good. I noticed that this was an Invar Shadowmask tube, and I was worried since I use a trinitron at work and have heard they're usually better. However, this monitor looked bright enough and text was clear. My final worry was if it was really "flat." I wanted a real flat screen and not one of the "flat square" tubes. Technically, for all I know it may still be a "flat square" but it looked perfect flat to me. So, it may or may not be perfect flat but I couldn't see any difference.

Anyway, I liked the black better. CC was able to price match me the $50 off $200 coupon that Staples has, so I walked out for $230 and need to send in my rebate to bring it down to $180. So, if you want a black version, you might try that.

And to think I was about to spend $280 on a perfect flat Refurbished 19" IBM....

I saw it but I didn't buy it.
First, it is not Diamondtron tube and I don't think they have a good bandwidth either. Second, it comes only one year warranty. I'll never buy any monitor that has only one year warranty.
I'm looking for deals on View Sonic P95F+ and Samsung 900NF like crazy these days. They are so wonderful.

I was worried about not being diamondtron/trnitron/apature grill whatever... I have a 2020U at work. So, I was really worried about getting an invar shadowmask... but it turned out okay. Secondly, I do agree with your notion on warranty. It's only a year limited. But, I can live with that for this price. Not to mention my credit card doubles the warrant I think. I dunno, I've never had to use my CC waranty protection :) before.

Also, usually MS have cheaper electronics because they're technically a value line. But it's recommended res is rated at 1280x1024 at 85HZ, and that's what I'll run on a 19inch monitor. I won't personally be going to 1600. While I agree with the notion that the monitor is the most important component, and if I could spend $500 bucks to get the grade A top of the line I could. But you gotta admit even with these short fallings it's great. And I think i've found out what kind of shadow mask tube it is...

Toms hardware had a review of 19 inchers, and one of the shadow masked tubes, theHitachi CM721F and just from a lay comparison, I think they might be the same tubes. Basically, the Hitachi has basically the same ratings in everything this NEC has. And they give a pretty decent reviewing. They don't say it's spectacular, or the #1, but they don't see any flaws and it's a good solid monitor. So, if the NEC is the same thing, or based on the same EDP shadowmask tech, which I'm kinda just guessing here, that's not bad for $180. Also, for those who hate the AG lines (Ipersonally don't care), this might be a great alternative.

One thing, it does look good. Both in its black style and in its display. While I was waiting for my PM, I had a couple families come by who were seriously interested in this monitor, and they didn't know about the staples deal. The Circut City I bought it from had actually put them out yesterday and sold out today. I had to drive an extra twenty minutes to pick one up from another Circuit City which had them.

Anyway, I'm glad I didn't wait. They're OOS on the Staples website now. :( Luckily, it doesn't show when you bring the monitor up and they didn't try to add it to a cart to see if it was OOS at the CC I was at. So, if you want one check your local Circuit City and see if they'll PM.

Invar Mask, Diamondtron, Trinitron ....

Just remember, nature's lesson. Water drops form in circles rather than square because it is the shape that occupies the least amount of area.

My Viewsonic P810 (manufacture date of October 1996) can out-perform any Trinitron or Diamondtron out there in sharpness. Maybe, not as vivid in color, but great on the eyes. You spend most of your time looking at text on a monitor, not images. And for gaming, vivid colors don't matter, because most of the games are so dark, they mine as well be black and white.

OOO [] [] [] Which of these two shapes (it takes three to form a single dot) fit the tighest in a circle?

This is one that should work. I haven't used it myself. If I recall, they're OOS at staples.com on this monitor. Stop by your local Circuit City and tell em about this online coupon to see if they'll pricematch like my local one did.

Code Coupon Expiration
***** $50 off $200 9/15

Doh, I forgot that you can't post codes on here so I thought I'd censor myself...

Staples here in Macon has them, but I am looking for a black one, so I am trying to get CC to use the coupon. Did you just give them the coupon code and they said okay? I don't see CC letting me use the coupon if I bring a print out from a forum. Let me know what you had to do to get CC to use the coupon because I have been wanting a black 19" to go with my new black case!

Well, I told them about the deal. So, a floor guy brought up the staples web site and asked me to find the monitor. So, I found it, and pointed out that it was the same price as their model, and that they also honored the same rebate for $50. Then I explained about the online coupon. For $50 off $200, and that would bring the price down to $230 before rebate. He asked me to bring up that site and I brought up the same page as I linked above. He printed out both that and the monitor page and told the manager about it. The manager gave an OK, and off I went and paid for it. It was as simple as that.
