I know Dell LCDs prices are tough to beat. I can't say I've ever been a fan of Dell, so trying to come to grips with putting something named Dell on my desk is a stigma I have to overcome, but the price has made me think.

Now between the NEC and Dell they are both 8bit and S-IPS. So the only thing that seems to stand in the way is the price difference and one being wide and one not.

Which would you prefer and why?

Nec

Nec at Zipzoomfly
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=231006

The NEC UK site lists the panel as S-IPS, but there is no mention of this on the USA site, so I'd hope the USA version is the same, if anyone knows.

i totally feel you on the, i cant buy anything that says dell on it. i just dont want to put a big box maker name on my desk...like hp or gateway either.

that nec is a LOT more expensive though. the dell 20" is a s-ips also lg/phillips panel so they are probably really similar.

unless you really cant get a dell, i'd get the dell..gasp, sigh. or get a samsung or other brand monitor as i think the nec is a bit over priced since that monitor is not particularly different.

i think compariing it to the 2007fp non-wide price wise is a big more fair, but its still about $150 more. you could probably get something like a samsung 215tw as an alternative.

Well I had a Samsung 215TW I didn't like the color stepping it did and the colors in games in low light, dark areas didn't have good contrast. I played with 5 of those LCDS I purchased at Costco and took them all back.

Honestly if Samsung had a nice S-IPS LCD I'd buy it over a NEC. Yes there are cheaper Samsungs over this NEC, but remember those are not S-IPS panels either.

NEC. First of all with Dell no guarantee you'll even get an IPS. Could be a PVA. NEC has way better warranty 3 years or 4 years I forget parts and labor. Dell has one year. NEC has better electronics and gets grade A panels form LGP dell gets grade b. Thats why NEC cost more.

Thanks Zebo, can anyone else confirm this, that true Dell is only a 1 year warranty, I thought they where 3, and that the NEC uses this A grade and Dell uses a B grade?

Hmm

There's a lot more about NEC which makes it superior i found by reading posts from a NEC engineer. Like high end circut boards and electronics inside. You may think he's bias but reading lots of his postings I feel compfortable passing this information along. Caveat emptor....Also Dell uses an older version of Samsungs PVA if you're unlucky enough to get that one. In 4:3, I'd actually choose the LG L2000C before either of them though only because I like its stand and bezel better and they overdrive it more for faster response..

Zebo getting back to my question with the NEC showing a DVD-D plug and my cards are DVD-I?

Also what panel does the LG use?

Also I don't see much of anyone I'd trust buying the LG from not to mention the fact that I'm in Hawaii and so I don't have to spend a fortune on shipping that is why I showed you a Zipzoomfly link for the NEC, because that is who I typically buy from.

That NEC from Zipzoomfly will only cost me like $18 for shipping, LOL ;)

No all these monitors come with the cable you need. DVI-D and DVD-I cables and plugs are the same. D just uses more pins..

I don't get ZZF site. those specs are way off LCD2070NX is a 16.7 millon color overdriven IPS.

Seems like they are using LCD2070WNX specs there...MVA..more than 16 mil etc all wrong

Ok on the DVD plugs, so the LG is a nicer panel then even the NEC, and electronics?

Also where is going to be the best place then for me to buy one without the shipping killing me?

The L2000C sounds like a good deal to me. Many reported 'banding' but I think that's bogus. They're probably using it with the F-engine (ACM/DCE) on, etc.

Well it seems like some nice specs, now the problem is where to get one without it costing a fortune in shipping.

Sheesh even NewEgg doesn't sell it. :(

There are plenty of LG reviews..many in this forum have got them and seemed really pleased...Shoppers at newegg seem pleased with all 5 stars.. But with NEC so cheap....
That's a real good deal on that NEC... Maybe just get it instead? Big name and solid reputation and cheaper...

Yes the NEC price much cheaper, and with the shipping for me as well.

I read the LG, people were talking about banding issues with it also.

Zebo now you made me think how much better are the differences between the NEC and LG are they pretty close in quality?

Hmm somone on Hardocp forum mentioned this:

Get the HP 2065. Newer version S-IPS (05 version, the NEC is 04 version).

Hmm now another thought here as to this HP instead, LOL

Zebo any thoughts on this HP compared to the NEC?

The 2070NX uses an S-IPS not a VA. That is an error on the website and is currently being corrected. SOrry for the inconvenience
