So is this a review of the NEC 30" or a I hate AMD rant? Can't tell.
If the AMD looked like crap, it was probably related to the overscan/underscan setting, and it was set incorrectly.

Most of the time it's this.
I remember when I bought my HDTV a while back, I was looking at TVs and the guy came in and was trying to sell me a POS brand that I don't know at all, think it was Dynex at that time. Image quality was awesome on the Dynex set and the Sharp and Panasonic on both side were looking like crap. Those 3 sets were plugged on HD.
I asked him for the Sharp remote and got in the settings just to see that the contrast was blasted to the top, brightness 20/100, colors too much on the green side and other stuff like that. I played with those settings and at the end the Sharp was looking even more awesome then the Dynex piece of s***.
Not really relevant to the topic but sometimes you have to push further to get the real anwser.
Im sure AMD has great cards, with their cards you can put 3 monitors on one card where it takes Nvidia two for that. Again, this was more about considering over $1000 on a monitor and just relaying my experience on two differnt PCs.
But you must admit that it's hard to compare since you didn't tested the 30" with a nVidia card in there.
Bring you 570 to the store and ask soneon to try the screen with your card.
After that it'll be easy to know if the problem is ATI related to NEC/screen...
Yes, the 2nd machine had a GTX 460 in it...
I'm just not sure I saw the monitor in the best condition on either card...
Obviously something was set wrong on the AMD setup.
I've used many different cards with 30"ers & there should not be a noticeable difference between AMD & nV picture quality on the desktop unless something is mis-configured.
No way I'd pay $1300 for a open box anything. I think you'd get more of that wow factor you're looking for in a 120hz monitor, nvidia 3d kit, and grabbing a second gtx 570. Sli 570's would push 3d nicely or you could play in 2d and have a ultra smooth gameplay experience while averaging 100fps in most games.
I dunno, i'll play the bad mofo here:
- Were the 2 screens set to the native resolution?
- Were the 2 screens had the same settings (color, brightness, contrast, etc)?
- Were the 2 screens plugged with the same cable type (hdmi, dvi, etc)?
I know i'm a pita but I saw countless times stores playing with settings and all just to boost the sales of a particular product (my sister worked 3 years for Futureshop...)
Anyways, it all end up a matter of preferences and opinions.
The same screen was hooked up to two different computers... So the screen settings will be the same.
dunno what you budget is, but Eizo recently put out a revised version of their 27" monitor.

i have the last gen of this monitor and love it. great for gaming, movie, whatever.
The native resolution is 2560x1440 and it has 1:1 scaling (which is a must).

This is ridiculous. The gtx 460 does not have some magic fairy dust that allows it to display the desktop much more clearly than the Ati cards. Most of the guys saying Ati sucks nvidia rulz have obviously not tried the new 5XXX or 6XXX Ati cards. They are just going by some stupid stuff they've read on teh forums from some fanboy or shill and repeat it like parrots. If you want to know how a card really works you've got to do it hands on.
Good grief, why don't you guys get PAST the whole AMD thing. I merely made a statement of what happened in the store, this was not some deep TEST I did.
The AMD set up probably was NOT set correctly and probably would have looked great had it been...
GEEEZZZZ!
The real issue is that I don't care WHAT card I use, a $1000 better impress the heck out of me and based on what I saw at the store, it didn't. I could not see THAT much difference over my iH282. Now laugh your ass off it you want but for FOUR TIMES the cost, I need to see mind boggling, not, I can see SOME difference...
Welcome to the quagmire.
We don't take too kindly to folks who make innocent off-the-cuff quips.
We KNOW you must be some kind of plant, mole, shill, etc.
There...simply...is...no...other...explanation... :hmm:
(please report yourself to the PFI sub-forum and request to be issued a standard issue tin-foil hat and help yourself to the complementary anti-fanboiz earplugz)

LMAO!
WOW, you can TELL the fanboys from the enthusiast. Say ONE thing against what they worship and they go nuts! An enthusiasts recognizes that NO BRAND is perfect in every respect...
Now, someone tell me the most KICK ASS monitor you can get and use with a single GTX 570!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hmm:
I'd say, if you want fluid FPS all the way i'd go for a 1920x1200 resolution. Plenty of screen size, good res and you can get this res in 26" screens (maybe bigger too?).
Can someone "nutshell" the different in IPS vs TN...?
Again, I have an iH282, 1920x1200 28" monitor now, I have no complaints, but if there is something better, I'd LOVE to see it...
