What viewers didn't see or hear was nearly three minutes of Romney discussing the nightmare of paperwork faced by an optometrist he'd talked to in trying to get the post office to change his address. He expressed mock amazement at Wawa's efficiency to underscore how the private sector often runs circles around the clumsy bureaucracy.

It sounds like he might be legally retarded. Either that or the rules in the US are radically different from Canada.

In Canada, all you need to do is have a bunch of documentation showing that you are you and have mail addressed to you at your new location. I would assume it's similar in the US. They grill the fuck out of you to prevent identity theft; they don't want some random person to claim they are you then have all of your mail directed to their own address.
 
why is it that when Fox News does this, it's a terrible outrage... but when MSNBC does it, the response is "but Fox does it too!"

isn't it just terrible journalism no matter who's behind it?

his point still stands. The private sector does run rings around the government. My problem with him on this is what does he expect to do about it? he can't do anything. so its a silly point to bring up.

Its not like he is going to fire the bloat. the guy is not one i want as President.

please post examples of fox news doing this. NBC has done it 3 times in the not so distant past. Rick perrys black cloud speech, The zimmerman 911 tapes and now this. NBC is a horrible news agency.

The reporter Andrea mitchel (alan greenspans wife), the editor and the producer should be fired.

wtf kind of statement is that??? you dont know what the rules are in the US to change your mailing address and then compare it to Canada?? WTF dude talk about retarded.

from what you say about the system in Canada its more of a redtape headache than the US. how are you suppose to have mail addressed to you at your new location when you cant get it delivered at your new location until AFTER you get your mailing address changed????

I've had to change my address a couple times in the US... it's never been terribly difficult, but I always suspect that mail gets lost into the ether (or, more likely, delivered to my old address and thrown out by the new occupants)

The government should make address changes as simple as ordering a burger. You just say your name, give absolutely no proof that you are who you say you are, and it gets processed by a 16 year old who doesn't care too much about his job. If a republican proposes a bill stating that people should be required to provide photo identification or at least some proof that you're a legal resident, democrats will jump on him by claiming that this is racist because black and hispanic people don't drive cars (they actually did argue this when republicans wanted photo ID for voting). Those damn racist republicans; how dare they assume that people of all colors drive cars and have jobs and stuff.

A 10 minute phone call with my bank will have them send statements to the new address. Take the bank statements to the post office and have them change it in their computer.

Is this a joke? Fox routinely edits in old footage into news stories to paint a false narrative. They do this routinely. Tea Party rallies, Glenn becks little sermon on the mount.

Maybe back in it's infancy. But even that is debatable. For most of my life it's been all about ratings and the easiest ways to get those ratings have been for the most part shock and controversy. Add a dollop of facts to a generous amount of opinion and stir vigorously. Chill and serve. Serves millions.

NBC got caught with their hands in the editing jar. Again. I'll still take them over Fox any day; it only takes a couple of grains of salt for NBC as opposed to the deer lick needed for Fox.

If I want in-depth coverage it's PBS/NPR or BBC.
 
I can't believe people are taking seriously Faux News' purported outrage. They are the masters and frequent practitioners of selective editing-remember the Obama speeches where they routinely edit out the appalause and edit in a gap, so it appears the audience doesn't agree with what Obama is saying? That's wilfull and intentional distortion with no possible excuse.

Talk about kettle calling the pot black.

When the pot (Faux News) routinely and as a matter of regular practice purposefully distorts what it airs, as opposed to (at most) a questionable edit on a very minor point, yes it does make a difference, a huge difference.

You can bet your bottom dollar Faux has been hunting high and low for any questionable practice ever commiteed by another network to justify what they do as a noble fight against the mainstream media (and what anyone else would call a propoganda machine).

Nope, it's wrong when Fox does it and it's wrong when NBC does it.

I just watched the video and this wasn't just "editing for time", the edit completely changed the meaning of the story.

The actual story was that Romney made a contrast between government red tape and buying a sandwich. The story as presented by NBC (including the anchors' reactions) was that Romney was amazed at buying a sandwich, a completely different story.

Not as bad as Fox often changing "R"s to "D"s when governors or congresscritters get in trouble, or arguing in court for the right to lie to viewers, but bad enough.
