NBA : do we have parity between east and west again?

by the nature of things, i think one will always be a little better than the other. it's hard to maintain perfect balance, but the last 6 seasons, there was a huge edge to the west.

this season, i just don't see it. i think the edge is a lot less than it was.

detroit = san antonio

miami = dallas

NJ < Pheonix (but probably not by much).

this is a lot more even than it has been in previous seasons.

at the bottom the west might still be a little stronger than the east.

but as far as playoffs are concerned, i don't know that there is a huge difference anymore.

The Nets aren't good enough to beat the the top teams in the west. Fast breaks don't happen in teh playoffs past the first round. Giving the ball to Carter, & clearing out isn't going to cut it. Miami stands a much better chance, but they need Walker or Williams to fill a third option. San Antonio has everything this year, from a fast offense to a strong & dirty defense. Dallas loses their composure in the playoffs, while Phoenix will run out of steam. Detroit might have peaked too early, so yet another player off the bench has to make a big impact.

For all the little guys, Washington has absolutely no defense, Cleveland is barely a .500 team against the west, & the rest of the east spots are barely .500 period. For the west, Memphis shares the ball too much & Gasol is nothing against anyone his size. Denver beats up on the east, & would be better if everyone wasn't always taking a breather(injured). The Clippers are good enough to pull an upset, but still just getting things together. Kobe might have pulled the Lakers through in a 5 game series, but that's all over. Artest supposedly got Sacramento to play defense, but reaching for a couple extra steals a night just leads to your teammates having to bail you out with a foul.

How long are the playoffs, April to June? Plenty of time to take a few naps on the couch watching baseball. 🙂

Miama is not nearly as good as Dallas, and San Antonio is a shade better than Detroit. I think it goes:

San Antonio
Detroit and Dallas tie
Phoenix
Miami

east and west is definately more balanced than 2-5 years ago. Back then, the #1 seed in the east was no better than the 5th or 6th seed in the west.

BS...you didnt predict detroit's championship in 04, you didnt predict phoenix's dominance last year, nor did you predict dallas's success this year.

however, it is predictable in a sense because there are enough games so that the best team will win...its a seven game series, so there isnt much chance that an inferior team can win 4 games against a better one....which makes it more accurate rather than predictable

knicks FTW!!! gooooooooooooooooooooo Team Thomas-Brown-Marbury-Francis!!!

My prediction:
East Finals = Miami v. Detroit
West Finals = San Antonio v. Phoenix (because SA meets Dallas in conference semifinals)

Finals = Detroit v San Antonio, with San Antonio winning again in 7 games
although personally I really want Phoenix to be in the finals. they're just an amazing team. I don't care if they beat Detroit, being in the finals is enough for me

besides detroit, the east sucks

have you been following basketball? or do you juust like to post?

do you really think a team from the east can win it all outside of detroit?

miami heat has just as much chance as dallas and phoenix does.
which isn't saying a lot since both of them have to go through BOTH Detroit and/or San Antonio one way or another if they were to win it all

miami is like a dallas...they are very good teams, but will never be able to make it over the hump

phx, with a healthy amare, is waaaay better than the nets. so i'd say the west has more "elite" teams, and the east still has some catching up to do.

but if you look at both conferences' cellar dwellers, they seem pretty even.

detriot is basically equal to san antonio. they have better defense, but weaker offense. only Rasheed Wallace and Richard Hamilton know how to attack.
GeneValgene, wtf are you talking about? Forgot Miami haven't you? Franlly, Dallas is not equal to Miami. also, the Pacers traded Sacramento and got Stojakovic who is a scary 3-point shooter. The parity ain't that big. the east is getting better. it is more equal as you saw in the All Star. although the Allstar is not a serious game, the last time, the west won without any trouble. O'neil, as much as i hate him, can score and did help Miami. so i don't think that you conclusion is correct. the parity between the east and the west has actually decreased.

i agree the east has definitely improved over the past few years. however, i would take dallas over miami in a close series, and phoenix (w/ amare) over new jersey in 4 games in a best of 5

Phoenix with a healthy amare is pointless supposition. He's not healthy and he's out. Phoenix is on its way down and the nets are on their way up. Detroit hasn't looked all that strong the past few months.

Don't forget about Denver. Denver is leading their division but is probably no better than Indiana this year. They would only have home court advantage against the #8 seed in the second round.

I think San Antonio + Dallas vs Detroit + Miami is pretty even. San Antonio is better than detroit, but Miami is better than Dallas (sometimes).

Um, he is back. He scored 20 points in 19 minutes the other night.

as much as i hope for amare to come back for the playoffs, he didnt play last night. and i dont think phx should force his return, they were able to get so many wins without him, i think Boris Diaw at center is really confusing the hell out of opponents.

I?m just glad DC has a winning team. After being the catfish of the league for so long it?s nice just to be in the playoffs.
