Shots fired inside D.C. naval facility
By CNN Staff
(CNN) - At least one person was injured Monday after a person fired shots inside the Washington Navy Yard, the U.S. Navy said.

An official told CNN's Barbara Starr that "several" people sustained injuries, according to phoned-in reports from the building.

The incident occurred at 8:20 a.m. when several shots were fired inside the headquarters for Naval Sea Systems Command in southeast Washington, D.C. An "active shooter" remained inside the building, the Navy said.

The Navy first informed the public of the incident in a Twitter message.

Emergency personnel, the FBI, U.S. Capitol Police and local D.C. police responded to the shooting. Some people are being evacuated and others are sheltering in place.

The headquarters -- the workplace for about 3,000 people -- is the largest of the Navy's five system commands.

It has a fiscal year budget of nearly $30 billion,

"With a force of 60,000 civilian, military and contract support personnel, NAVSEA engineers, builds, buys and maintains the Navy's ships and submarines and their combat systems," the Navy said.

Only in this twisted world we live in can a crazy person with a gun do this on an active military base.

Hope they can end this without further incident but this looks like another Fort Hood.

Time to trot out making naval facilities gun free zones.

Nah, they don't have enough guns. If they had more, this could have been avoided and the shooter would have been taken out before he had a chance to get off one shot. :whiste:

How long until "this is a false flag operation to divert attention from Obama's failure with Syria and turn public opinion against guns"?

LOL at reporting. "It's an AR15, that is the weapon that fires in 3 round bursts automatically capable of 100s of bullets a minute."

Three gun advocates complaining this incident will be used for political purposes, while proceeding to use this incident for political purposes.

Hilarity ensues......

Try to have some common decency people.

I dont see a complaint from me about this being used for political reasons. Nice attempt at a strawman. In fact none of the quotes you used are complaining this will be used for political reasons.

It's not so much the political purposes that bother me as much as the outright crazy that always seems to hit critical mass after these things.

I'm not advocating anything. Was just returning the smart-assed remark to my good buddy Genx87!

4 killed, 8 injured in a shooting at Washington Navy Yard; at least 2 shooters involved

A Navy spokesman says four have been killed, eight wounded in shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.

Capt. Ed Buclatin, a spokesman at Naval Installations Command, which is based at the Navy Yard, tweeted:

#BREAKING: 4 killed and 8 injured. One shooter down #NavyYardShooting #Navy #CNICHQ

Multiple media reports said at least two attackers were involved in the rampage. One shooter was reported “down,” while authorities were believed to be closing in on the other inside the Navy Yard’s Building 197.

I read it's a safe building so these people are insiders.
I wonder if it's like another hasan or just people going postal?
