I refuse to observe this day of unplugging. I don't understand why anyone thinks there is merit to avoiding technology. Technology is good and it does not take away from my other interests or my contact with other people. Ideas like this are stupid.

This would probably be really good for a lot of people. I like to shut off all of my electronics and turn off my phone and just lay in bed and read for a while from time to time. It's very relaxing.

I do that every day...it's called bedtime.

During the summertime, I could handle that for an entire week. The only technology I'd need is electricity for my well pump. (I do like to take a shower daily.)

Ironically, #2 - connect with loved ones - I did yesterday, and each time it was either via facebook, else a cell phone.

Just like all the other sheeple that think they're not sheeple.

Shhh, do you want to end up naked and bound with a ball gag in your mouth in his basement? I've seen him do this to other members...I won't mention any names though (cough, Nik, cough).

CAN I? Yes, of course I can.

WILL I? Fuck no.

Why the hell should I? Because some fucking Jewish group thinks I should?

Not fucking likely.

Hard work is for suckers. I'd rather have all of my technology. Use a telephone to talk to a friend without driving 20 minutes to go to his house. Drive for 20 minutes instead of walk for 3 hours. Use tap water instead of manually pumping water from a well. Right now this room is heated by electricity; increasing the temperature is done by adjusting a little knob rather than cutting down the nearest tree and cutting the tree into smaller pieces then building a complicated ventilation system to burn all of that wood since this room is in the interior of the house, away from any windows.

hmm. maybe i'll go camping this summer. but i'll be pissed if my crackberry loses service up there.

most of the items on your list are things that normal people do every day... no need for a special day to... do them to the extreme or something.

Maybe if I did not work, and I could go camping, then sure, I could avoid technology. Would have to be when it's above zero out though, or we'd have to use the heater, which is technology. :p

I swear, some people really need to learn what "Luddite" means, or at least learn to read with comprehension. What this event is encouraging is taking a break from using the gadgets we use all the time. It's not about bringing civilization into the pre-industrial age.

I love to use my Blackberry and my PC, but I recognize that it's beneficial to rip myself away from them everyone once in a while, for a mental and physical break. Sometimes we need a break from even the most enjoyable things in life, at least to remind us of how lucky and blessed we are.

I think this could be especially good for heavy multitaskers. Sometimes we think we get caught up in doing so many things at once that we forget that it's often more effective to focus and handle things one at a time.

The users getting really defensive about this must be even greater tech addicts than I, lol. No one is forcing you to do this, or to even read the thread.
"I'll get a day of rest from technology when you rip my iPhone from my cold, lifeless hands!!!"
