A guy states he was targeted for being gay. I think asking how it was known he was gay is very relevant.

I ask again, how was it relevant? Is being "overtly gay" reason enough to accosted? Is it not allowable for boyfriends to hold hands? If so, you're simply proving why days like National Coming Out Day are necessary.

My answers are as follows....

Holding hands or some such? Well congrats, you identified yet another asshole in the world. Such is life and theres no shortage of asshats in the world.

Dressed in full drag and high heels? Well, if you dont want to be a target dont paint one on your back.

I'm a firm believer in "If you dont want trouble, dont go looking for it".

How did he know you were gay? Were you holding hands? Wearing a gay pride shirt of some type? Dressed in drag?

Maybe he had gaydar of his own and just isn't comfortable with his own gayness so he feels the need to lash out at those he is ashamed to be like?

Probably gossip. I was at the gym a few mornings ago and a normal looking dude walks in. One of the other guys there mentioned that he was gay. I have no clue where he obtained that information, but I nevertheless know that this person I've never seen before and have no reason to suspect is gay, is gay. Not that I give a shit, but news like that tends to travel.

So the woman walking alone in a city wearing high heels and a miniskirt was just asking for the gang raping, right?

Well, based on the posts made by Platypus in this, and other threads, as well as using some common sense I think it's fairly safe to assume he and his boyfriend weren't standing on the corner in thongs/leather with dildos strapped to their heads. Or do you think that's what "the gays" do?

Its amazing to me how determined gays are to share their sexuality with the world. Its as if they feel obligated to share that fact. Weird.

Because heteros are so apt to hide their sexuality out of concern for scorn, ridicule, harassment, or physical harm.

Oh wait...

Bingo.

And for what it's worth we were holding hands. How that entitles someone to act that way or that I'm somehow 'looking for trouble' living my life the way I want to, I am not entirely sure.

That's a bunch of bullshit. People shouldn't have to hide who they are just so that everyone else feels comfortable in their denial.

My wife's half brother is gay and he has been hiding who he is from his Dad for his entire life (and he is 30 years old). He has come out to the rest of the family but his Dad is very religious and has no tolerance for homosexuality.

Your solution is live with the intolerance and/or hide in shame? Wow...

Lets not be silly. Of course thats not what "the gays"(?) do. Sorry for trying to understand the situation. Next time I'll try to be like everyone else and just jump to irrational conclusions.

so..why is that asking for trouble and, presumably, deserving of trouble?

Well clearly you were displaying your preference of a flaming homosexual to offend heteros everywhere, impugning upon the sacred sacrament of marriage between a man and a woman, displaying your affections publicly in an obscene manner that no heterosexual couple would EVER even think about doing. :p

You clearly cant understand the difference between mainstream and extreme. Sorry, cant help you.

My good friend and cousin is gay. In fact he was married with kids before getting a divorce due to being gay. Watching how my family treats him pisses me off to no end.

So dont play some holier than thou card with me. Got it? Go fuck yourself if you think you are the only one who deals with these issues JulesInferior.

Irrational conclusions? You mean like insinuating that a gay couple must be doing something "too gay" to be accosted in public? Would it not have been more rational to blame the actor, and not question the victims?

Dont blur the line. I didnt say it was deserving of trouble. But you have to be foolishly ignorant to think that dressing like that wont bring trouble your way. I wont even begin to discuss it further as you are trying to insinuate that I think Platypus deserves trouble when that is in fact not the case.

Proof? Where did I insinuate anything? It was a clear question. The fact you feel the need to twist my words to prove your point....Well, cant help you.

If anyone is reading this, I urge you to take advantage of this day, even if it's just in PM. Knowing there are people out there you can talk to is essential.
