NASCAR Sued

Don't think I've seen this here, and I searched around, so I apologize if it's a repost.

Some guy has too much money and is suing for the right to have a NASCAR race on his track.

Now, maybe I'm crazy, but that's not the way things should work, is it? I wake up tomorrow and decide I want the New York Yankees to play in my backyard in Alexandria, VA, so I hire some bigshot lawyer and sue them to make them move there? WTF?

Thoughts? This seems like just another stupid lawsuit, and it really chaps my behind to think that this guy might get away with this.

I am writing to ask you to protect race fans like me. We know that the lawsuit brought by Richard Farmer, Chairman of Cintas Corporation and his partners at the Kentucky Speedway could change NASCAR forever.

Our tracks have been built on years of racing tradition by fans, drivers and owners. I don't want to see the NEXTEL circuit turned into a free-for-all where the highest bidder can buy a race.

Just about everything in NASCAR is for sale, I don't see what the fuss is about. This is now a corporate sport, they plaster themselves, their cars, their tracks with nonstop ads and can't open their mouth without shilling for their sponsors.

This sport sold out a long time ago, it's not just a bunch of good ol' boys racing their moonshine runners anymore.

IMO WRC drivers are probably the best car handlers, and F1 drivers the most physically fit. NASCAR is more interesting racing than open-wheel racing in many respects, but that doesn't make the drivers anything extraordinary by the standards of other internationally-sanctioned racing series.

IMO WRC drivers are probably the best car handlers, and F1 drivers the most physically fit. NASCAR is more interesting racing than open-wheel racing in many respects, but that doesn't make the drivers anything extraordinary by the standards of other internationally-sanctioned racing series.

Excuse me, I didn't mean F-1. F-1 doesn't compete in the International Race of Champions. The IROC = Nascar, WRC, and Indy racers. Nascar always comes out on top 🙂

1) They rarely race really close to one another . . . except with the intent for some bumpage.

2) It sure does take a lot of talent to make one big left-hand turn for 4 hours.:roll:

3) Doesn't the IROC series basically use the equivalent of a stock car?

4) Prior to this year's one race on a road course at Daytona, the last time IROC held a road-course event was 1991.

5) Given 3 and 4 . . . seems kinda odd to crow about NASCAR drivers looking good in an event that largely uses their equipment and almost exclusively utilizes NASCAR venues.


NASCAR drivers are indeed highly skilled but not to the level (IMHO) of WRC or IRL. Point of fact, the true test of your skills comes from a place like Laguna Seca. If you can drive there, then you can drive anywhere.

As BBD has pointed out, it's not like IROC, which races relatively stock cars on an oval track, is a test of car-handling ability. Put a bunch of NASCAR drivers on a WRC course, under the clock, and some of them won't come back alive, much less finish with a competitive time.

As BBD has pointed out, it's not like IROC, which races relatively stock cars on an oval track, is a test of car-handling ability. Put a bunch of NASCAR drivers on a WRC course, under the clock, and some of them won't come back alive, much less finish with a competitive time.

The IROC is supposed to be a combination. The cars are supposed to be half like indy cars, half like nascars, and half like WRC cars. 🙂

No offense, but you're going to have a hard time convincing me that races between stock-bodied race cars on a banked oval are anything like champ-car racing or WRC. I'm not saying, at all, that NASCAR drivers aren't talented, but I think it's just a form of racing that's much simpler and less dependent on driver skill and fitness, and car prep, than open-wheel racing or WRC. This is, ironically enough, part of the reason the racing tends to be more competitive than, say, F1.

I personally don't see why anyone would like F1. Rally racing is cool to watch, and gets pretty intense...NASCAR can too. But F1? Boring. You see one car go by (ZOOOOOOOoooooooooooooom), and then a few seconds later another goes by.

this was posted somewhere around here about a month back. i remember reading that same site.

i think my take then was, did nascar induce them into building the track? if nascar said, you build a track, and we'll race there at twice a year, then they have a claim. if nascar said, if you build a track, we might race at it, then they don't have a claim. if they just build a track expecting nascar to come, they've only got jack and sh!t, and jack just left town.

My girlfriend speaks medical Spanish. So yeah! She can ask anyone where it hurts.

She loves watching Rally with me. Especially Irish Rally where the roads are narrow and fast.

I don't like watching racing, it puts me to sleep. But I'll be damned if I didn't have a lot of fun watching go cart races a couple weekends ago. And I'm not talking about the 5mph things they have down at the miniature golf course.

A guy I know builds and drives go carts. Seems there are lots of small regional go cart racing leagues, that have divisions ranging from 8 years old to adults. The kids apparently have restrictor plates on them to keep their speeds down, but the adult division (and especially the mod division my friend is in) must have been doing 50-60mph around a small ring track. It was only 3-5 laps so it moved right from one race to another, it was a lot of fun.

I guess it's the same way I'd rather watch amateur sports of any kind vs. professionals.

This is kind of like the situation we have in St Louis, MO.

We have a viable track and a really good bunch of race fans but we dont have any big races here. It is basically all politics. It is big money for someone else to lose one of their races.
