We have a viable track and a really good bunch of race fans but we dont have any big races here. It is basically all politics. It is big money for someone else to lose one of their races.
Well with Toyota joining the NSACAR Circuit amybe some other Japanese Manufacturers will if Toyota is successful. When more join they'll have to add more teams. Right now Bush and Nextel Series is poretty crowded, maybe they'll start another series enabling tracks like that one in Kentucky and the one in your city to host NASCAR Cup races.

Here's the problem, Busch and Nextel already run a packed calendar. There's certainly money to be made by adding more races/venues but I seriously doubt the France family is looking to add calendar dates . . . unless it goes to one of their tracks.

Part of the issue that has come up is that NASCAR has plans for other new tracks and is now overlooking Kentucky. For example, there are plans to build a new race track in New York and somewhere else in nothern US. I just question why NASCAR would ignore Kentucky over some of these other places where people really don't care as much. Even the drivers that race in both the Busch and Nextel cup like the track.

I worked Country Stampede inside the Kentucky Speedway a couple of times a couple years back. They do have a couple Busch races a year (at least from what I was told), but the track sucks compared to all other Nextel Cup tracks I've seen.

I think local governments have a serious problem in thinking that if they build it they will come. Tons of cities are trying to build race tracks, sports stadiums and conference centers claiming as soon as it is built all these great things will happen. Truth is there are a limited number of races, sports teams, large conferences and worthwhile concerts. Besides who the hell wants to go to Sparta, Kentucky, the best thing about the place is the Casino on the other side of the border.

The Problem with NASCAR making the schedule is the same people who run NASCAR also own over half the Tracks. So guess which tracks get two races a year and which get one or none. The France family needs to either give up control of NASCAR or their piece of International Speedway Corp.

That's life . . . it's clearly an oligarchy but the France's have just enough cooperative 'competition' that anti-trust hasn't taken too much interest. Then again, there's nothing stopping a well-funded group from starting their own race series.

And there's other ways to make money. A friend that owns a concessions company told me a track owner allegedly offered Tennessee and VTech several million dollars each to play a game at Bristol.
