a little birdy told him.

i been looking for any report of a fatality and there are none so far. a few in bad shape though.

"At Halifax Health Medical Center, seven patients were taken to the emergency room in Daytona Beach, two of those — an adult and a minor — with critical injuries, said hospital spokesman Byron Cogdell. Six patients were taken to the medical center's hospital in Port Orange. All of the Halifax patients were listed in stable condition, Cogdell said."
--Daytona News Journal

Halifax, which is only a few blocks from the track, is the local trauma center. I'm confident that that is where the more seriously injured patients were taken.

Not all of them, local coverage had the hospital working on a man that was lacerated from his shin to his hip, he's in stable condition now. I've seen the fence up close, it's interwoven with thick steel cables but if an engine block, tires and front end parts can make their way through it a redesign may be in order, I have seen it hold up to some horrific impacts but this is not good. Part of the Daytona experience is to stand on that walkway as 40 cars whiz by at 190+MPH... :)

Yet they will STILL consider it the best day of their lives.

It is unbelievable that the driver just walked away from this. Car safety has come a long way since the days of Dale Earnhardt Sr.

Now they need to do some more research on fence safety. A fence like this should not cut the car in 2 and allow debris to get into the stand. That's the theory, making it so might be very difficult.

Apparently there's a gate, which is possibly responsible for cutting the car in two and letting the engine though, so it could be easily fixed.
Theory: gate cause the problem.
Solution: don't have a gate there.

Thats a shame huh dave....I know you were wishing for the kid to die. Your type disgusts me.

And you know Dave wished this how?

Dave set this page up for my brother who died 10 years ago and it's still running. Sure sounds like a man who wishes people would just die.

You may not like Dave or his politics but your statement in no way reflects whether you know if Dave wanted anyone to die or not. the only thing he posted was most likely true in that the 14 year old was most likely not drunk (as was posted in the 2nd post of this thread that they ALL were drunk and didn't feel it).

Gate gone:

Officials decided not to rebuild the collapsed cross-over gate, which allows fans to travel between the stands and the infield before races.

Some friends of mine were in row 12 of the section where this happened. They got showered with some small parts but are OK. Scary stuff

Yeah... but I still think that they need to fix the 6th generation cars to they do not fly apart so easily.

I love how they made room in the story to promote Danica Patrick. She may be the biggest boost to racing in a long timel but this story is about the injured fans.

Sorry to bump this thread but this happened during the NNS race not the sprint cup race. The NNS cars are different and were last revised in 2010. All the "Gen 6" stuff is only about Spring Cup cars.
