To steal someone else’s joke it seems like this guy really isn’t good at race related things.
The country band Lady Antebellum dropped the "ntebellum" from their name too.
The strange thing here is that I think you believe a world in which we DON'T honor people who committed treason in order to protect the ability to own other humans as property is the insane one.Lordy.
The world has gone insane.
Do explain what's insane about that?Lordy.

Why would they need to remove the word Antebellum from their name? It is only a time period.
Politically Correct on Steroids. As well as dumping Gone with the wind.
There's that age thing again--you just don't appreciate the inherent racism that is, quite specifically, Gone with the Wind, and the overall treatment of the antebellum south as a "pure, woe-be-gotten" time that was a tragic, tragic loss. My grandma was all into that shit. The portrayal of the loyal, loving negress, that was "as much a part of the family, and her love for being a kept slave woman. See--it wasn't that bad for the negroes!"
It sounds like you just don't understand how preposterously insulting it is, to a vast swatch of the citizens in this country, to lionize this time and place in American history.
I'm guessing you don't understand what the term "whitewashing" means--you either don't care, or will decide it means something that it clearly doesn't--but this is exactly what white washing means.
My grandmother fucking loved Margaret Mitchell. Grandma always pined for her lost plantation days (yes, she was pretty much raised that way). It makes sense--she was a colossal racist.
...the word, on it own, simply means "before the war." Yes, you are correct. But you have to understand--of course, you won't. you don't care--that there is a very real treatment of "The antebellum south." That is what Gone with the Wind is --a complete fucking lie--and Lady Antebellum, they get to make their own choice, don't you think--they know exactly what that term implies, about that Margaret Mitchell vision of the antebellum south. How quaint and pastoral and wonderful it was. That is what it means. They get it. You don't.
How so? Seems like they realized the word has some negative associations and that they want no part of . It also sounds like they want to show support for the black community. Isn't that just them showing their american spirit? We all have the right to share our opinions and that is what they are doing.Lordy.

This was brave for them considering they will probably lose a ton of fan over it.
You know what the stark reality is.
You can tear down all the statues of the past, burn all the books of the past, ban all the movies of the past, delete all the words of the past. It won't change a fucking thing as the real problems will exist as the above listed items are not the problem. The problem is human nature. The tide is slowly turning, but destroying inanimate objects and words does nothing. No matter how you try you cannot undo your past history you can however learn from it.

You seem to have completely missed the point Gesture are not going to change anything do you honestly believe anyone thinks that? They will help bring about a discussion that needs to be had. Things like this are a signal to our entire society to acknowledge we have a problem that needs to be fixed. Admitting you have a problem is step one.
Is that 100% clear to you now?
Do you think we have a problem at all?
No one is erasing the past. The are changing the present and future.Everybody knows there is a problem.
Erasing the past isn't doing anything to help.
Nobody ever said that tearing down statues or changing names would solve any problems. But they are the first steps to getting there; you can't really move past something if you keep idolizing it.
No one is erasing the past. The are changing the present and future.
Well fuck. We need to get busy then.
We got a lot of books and movies to burn. 😱
Sounds like Fahrenheit 451.
No you are being willfully ignorant. You are blind.
How is NASCAR banning a racist flag from being used in association with their brand erasing the past? You know what it does do, draw attention to the fact that we have a problem. This thread is proof of that. You are blind.

yea what an odd reply. Books and Documentaries are actually a great place for the history. Might as well just use the old we need to get rid off all statues and monuments argument. There's a stark difference between idolizing and remembering. Movies and books give us a look into how things were and force you to reflect on those times.
Nobody worships books and movies. People don't plaster their trucks with book covers.
Statues and flags of hate belong in a museum, not out on display in public.
This is my reference for the movie banning.
