So, looking at spaceweather.com and NOAA's solar weather pages - I am still having a hard time determining the exact answer to the one question I have. Well, I had two questions, but one has been answered.
1) Q: Is everything we know going to be destroyed?
---A: Sadly, no.
2) Q: Will Southern Michigan/Northern Ohio be treated to the aurora?
---A: ???

It appears tonight, if anything, we have the best chance in a long time. Anyone think it might just be possible?

I might actually kill just to see the aurora once in my lifetime.
 
Good news is, if any computers or communication gear crash or have a bit error event you've got a good excuse!

Yeah, that'd really seriously suck.
No fuel pumps operational, so no cars or trucks, no factories operational, no running water, no sewage processing - until they are able to start up some factories and build some new substation transformers to replace the ones that would probably melt or burn as a result of the powerful induced DC currents.
Knock us back to the Middle Ages.
The sad part is, we've seen it happen not too terribly long ago - the Carrington Event. Are we prepared for it? Yup, completely: We simply gamble that it won't happen again anytime soon.

Yeah, I'd love to see them too. The last time there was something like this with low-latitude aurora activity, it was cloudy. Looking at the satellite map here.......not looking good for tonight. And looking outside right now - heavy downpour.

Probably not. This storm wasn't very huge. The class rating goes:

A - B - C - M - X

with 'A' being small and 'X' being ginormous. It's a logarithmic scale too so I believe a B0 is 10 times more powerful than an A0.

The same could be said of you. Every time you try to argue one my valid points I laugh out loud. I wonder to myself, "Is destrekor trolling or what?"

Also, this scientific prediction or estimation of said event is also laughable as I think it is grossly exaggerated and highly questionable. The sky isnt falling. We will all be fine.

I don't believe there was anything that happened on the sun. How could they tell? The sun is too bright. If you look at it, you'd go blind before you saw some sort of explosion. These people are just saying that there's a solar storm coming because that's what gets them funded. It's all natural variation. 😛

<buzz killington> Extreme UV cameras onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory caught the activity. UV cameras on a satellite won't go blind looking directly at the sun 😛 </buzz killington>
