It's been affected by Mar's gravity ever since it was launched from Earth. The effects are just growing more and more significant as it gets closer. It's up to 5.5km/s now.mar's gravity takes hold! 6 minutes from entry!
Awesome news wired, I bet that is one happy room right now
They do not yet have full communications capabilities active. The rover is on the "far side" of Mars right now, so it is relaying pictures via one of the orbiters. They also have not yet deployed the high gain antenna or the main camera on the rover. They need to first verify the rover is in a stable position before they start raising, unfurling, etc.I wonder what kind of bandwidth we get to transfer these huge images from so far. Must not be too great considering we get sub 500pix ones first.
