Nancy Pelosi stood and spoke non-stop for 8 hours today on behalf of DACA recipients. That is a very respectable amount of time and I salute her for standing up for these soon-to-be Americans. I hadn't thought much of Pelosi before, but wasting 8 hours of Pual Ryan's time is exactly what I want my representatives in congress to be doing. She is accomplishing amazing things here.


We can only hope that we will get more congressional representatives like Pelosi. The democrats have good representation right now with Pelosi and Schumer. As long as democrats don't fall for concern trolling bernie bots and throw them out we will do great.
 
would it be possible for Pelosi to do this every day that congress is in session? Is there any limit to the number of consecutive times you can filibuster for 8 hours? Could multiple congressmen possibly trade off an filibuster for 4 hours, then another for 4 hours more.... then alternate each day?

What if Pelosi filibustered for 8 hours every day congress was in session until Donald Trump left office? I'm just trying to think like mitch mconnel here.

From what I understand it’s a curtsey given to the Senior Leader and that person alone. They are not held accountable to time limits on speech.
The limitation is a) physical endurance nobody is going to do that day after day b) the curtsey could be removed
 
It's the House, by House rules Ryan could have stopped her at anytime.

You understand, I hope, that Trump turned what was promised as a dream into a living nightmare for hundreds of thousands of people, creating a political roadblock that pits the interests of the country in having a stable budget against shafting all those people. It's the white supremacist faction of the Republican party that throws up these devils choices to divide democrats. There is no real answer other than Americans voting out that filth. In the mean time, looks like the welfare of the many will be the only rational choice people who depend on public support to be elected, will be able to win reelection on the democrat side. I'm not really a fan, but I'll tip my hat to her here. That is an impressive display of drive and endurance, and for a worthy cause. How a woman of that age just stood for 8 hours in heels with no bathroom breaks kinda blows my mind. My wife can't go 20min without needing to pee.

Sorry Moonie, but you lay the blame on President Trump when he has little to do with the current impasse. Pelosi talked about and for the DACA people, they existed long before anyone even knew about Trump, but were the problem of President Obama. He was the roadblock from where all these problems sprang. He could have negotiated a solution with Congress to permit DACA folks to become citizens, but he never did and he left them hanging out to dry. At least place some of the blame where it deserves to be placed.
