Name your top five standup comics.

1. Bill Cosby.
Reason: The man's a legend, and his content is largely clean. I think it takes a lot of talent to make genuinely funny stuff (largely) without using profanity.
Favorite clip:

2. Eddie Izzard.
Reason: He is a master of historical humor, I like that his content is typically not raunchy, he's quite creative (See the Dress to Kill segment when he speaks in French, but the audience follows him), and he goes off on wild tangents.
Favorite clip:

3. Jim Breuer.
Reason: His content is hysterical, he's a genius of impersonation (see Joe Pesci and ACDC especially), and, like Bill Cosby, he's largely clean.
Favorite clip (this guy gets two):

4. Dave Chappelle.
Reason: Do I need one? Just looking at the guy makes me laugh. He's very talented at impersonations and he's the only comedian I can think of who practically has his own accent.

5. For the moment, I haven't selected my #5. Will edit later.

in no specific order

1. Mitch Hedberg
2. Chris Rock
3. Eddie Murphy pre-1990
4. Dave Chapelle pre-Chapelle's show (although I did enjoy some of it)
5. ???

Top 7 in no particular order:

Mitch Hedberg
Louis CK
Richard Pryor
Paul F Tompkins
George Carlin
Bill Hicks
Steven Wright

These are my favourites right now (some have always been faves like Pryor, but others come and go from the list)

KT

Edit: Izzard is awesome. I need to see more of his stuff, but "I'm covered in bees" always freaking kills me.

Chris Rock is the worst standup of all time. OF ALL TIME. The dude is not funny and should never have been in movies.

i disagree. he had a fantastic style and BIGGER AND BLACKER was epic.

shake it up and make mo' tussin.

Carlin and Pryor were lightyears ahead of the other comics of their era. I would add in Steven Wright, Dennis Miller and Steve Martin.

actually, his stand up is awesome. I was going to edit my list and add him.

he can be too abrasive for some, i suppose.

Dave Chappelle is pretty good. I love his "Keep It Real" skits that making fun of the gangsta/thuggery mentality.

I thought that was Chris Rock? They both do similar stuff.

One of my favorite Rock bits, in B&B, I think, is when he's talking about how people brag about shit they're supposed to do anyway.

"Hey man, I Keep it real: I take care of my kids. That's right, I take care of my kids!"
"You dumb niggah! You're supposed to take care of your kids!"

part of his "the difference between black people and nigg*rs" routine.

Oh, nvm, you're talking about the Chappelle Show--"When Keeping it Real goes wrong."

Anyone stupid enough to put Jeff Dunham as their #1 has no right to write a statement like that. Your opinions on comedy are as dumb and uninformed as your opinions on religion.

Old Eddie Murphy (Raw and Delirious)
Mitch Hedburg
Louis CK
Bill Burr
George Carlin
Joe Rogan
Joey Diaz
Robin Williams
Rodney Dangerfield
