mainly cops and lawyers, I think in other jobs you'll find good and bad depend more on the type of person that does the job. Cops and Lawyers just do very little that is useful.

A cop does more good for society than you ever will in 1,000 lifetimes.

no people call the cops first.

They call the lawyers second because other, read as most, lawyers will defend the scum of the earth. So people need to protect themself of the scum with a lawyer by hiring their own lawyer.
Lawyers made themselves needed by having no conscience and siding with bad guys, so that good guys need them to defend themselves from the scum.

The US would be a lot better off with 1/10 the amount of lawyers today: What do you call a 100,000 lawyers pushed out of a plane? .... a good start

Yes we need some lawyers but the ones without a conscience would be nice to get rid of.

Everyone in the US has a RIGHT to legal representation. It's not a matter a siding with a particular person. There are many situations where a court won't let an attorney drop a client.

If there was a magic way of determing facts/who is right or wrong in every situation by simply looking at people, or people start acting civil to each other, then people won't need lawyers but until Tom Cruise starts looking at a magic see-though monitor; it ain't gonna happen.

PI lawyers don't do themselves any favors by airing cheesy commercials and making idiots think they deserve a windfall but for the most part attorneys are smarter, wealthier, and work harder than the general population.

edit: and wait until engineerds realize they can bump themselves up to a base of atleast $125K/year without much experience if they go into patent law.

As an engineer, I will just say that you should not discount the lost opportunity cost of 3 years of law school. Sure a typical engineer isn't going to make $800k like most of ATOT, but a skilled engineer shouldn't have a big problem reaching that $125k/year just working as an engineer.

Three years of that lost money is a lot to make up. Plus you will likely have to borrow money to go to law school, which would put you further in the hole. Maybe a typical patent lawyer could make that up in a few years work, but maybe not. I don't really know. How much does your starting salary as a patent lawyer depend on the law school you attend and your rank in class upon graduation? If only the top 10% of the classes of the top 10 law schools in the country bring in these $125k patent lawyer positions you are talking about, then a typical engineer would have to think pretty hard about whether or not going to law school would pay off in the long run. Plus how many hours a week do typical patent lawyers make?

I am not discounting your idea. I am actually interested in this because as an engineer who just started my first real job, I am interested to know what other fields I could leverage my technical knowledge and problem solving experience in. Business? Law? I don't really know at this time, but it's something that I'm keeping in the back of my mind for future reference.

1. Professors, teachers, and school administrators who believe that 1) they are better than everyone else, or 2) know more than everyone else, or 3) that they are entitled to share their personal opinions on any topic whatsoever with anyone they can hold captive. (Most fit this bill, but not all).

2. (This line item redacted due to fear of retaliation.)

Huurr dee hurrr.

Not even funny. The only people who would find that joke funny are ultra-patriots, IE mindless american nationalists, which ironically are probably furthest from being patriotic.

Anyway, it's fun to listen to all the authoritarian-happy kids bitch about how people don't like cops. Hey, maybe if they stopped being douche-bags while getting paid by our taxes, we wouldn't be as pissed off? :cookie:
