Name the worst corporate merger in history

AOL and Time Warner - last i checked, their business wasnt doing so hot.

At least Daimler and Chrysler are putting out some new cars that look decent - 300C

CINGULAR AND AT&T

then

AOL Time Warner

then maybe

HP-Compaq

best mergers recently?

Emachines-Gateway
Bank of America-Fleet
JP Morgan Chase-BankOne

I've got it!

Air Canada and Canadian Airlines.

Garanteed the worst. Those mentioned are nothing relative to that horrid move. Look it up 🙂

I'm actually a big fan of the HP+Compaq merger. two crappy companies combined into one mediocre company 🙂

add on another vote for AOL/Time Warner.

the merger made negative degrees of sense, and AOL was highly over-valued.

Here is the financial data for canada's only major airline company. (the others do mooch major routes, Air Canada is the only one who services the whole country)

These guys had a bit more than half the market, merged with Canadian and formed the Monopoly known as Air Canada.
Canada has strict Molopoly laws so they had to make major consessions, combine that with poor management and you get the WORST MERGER EVER!

see: (canadian funds) - last 4 quarters.
current stock price: $0.06 - A-class shares
revenues: $8.4 billion
profit: -$1.9 billion
earnings per share: -$15.53
assets: $6.9 billion
debt: $0.33 billion
equity: -$4.2 billion

Yeah!....Go Air Canada.
Care to share your financials?...i bet i will win 🙂

aol-timewarner

and

compaq-dec. compaq choked on dec, which lead to the merger with hp, which is also an awful merger.

the worst part about compaq-dec is that it killed the best server platform ever, alpha. if compaq hadn't bought dec alpha would probably rule the internet.

Any of the oil company mergers could fall into the "worst" category because, in the end, it just means higher prices at the pumps.

A merger that didn't happen because it was shot down by the FTC: Staples and Office Depot.

Finally, there is a merger buy-out on the books that causes me great concern. Black and Decker is trying to buy out Porter Cable. For anyone who loves great tools, this might also be a concern to them. Hopefully, B&D doesn't yank the PC name or hurt the quality of the products by making junk tools under the PC name.

do you have anything to substantiate that claim or is this just irrational hatred of oil companies?
