The greatest movie of all time:

THE CASTLE

The most emotive, bittersweet, soul-searching, awe-inspiring movie of all time.

Excuse me for being blunt, but most of you people are idiots.

The topic is under-rated movies, not under-appreciated movies.

Gattaca, Sphere and Episode 1 are the only movies I have seen mentioned above that qualify. Granted Sphere and Episode were terrible terrible films, but atleast they qualify as poorly thought of films that someone might have thought deserved better reviews.

Some of the more idiotic suggestions:
Vertigo
12 Angry Men
Farewell My Concubine
Contact

The first three are widely regarded classics and the 4th is the most OVER rated movie ever (my opinion not necessarily shared by all)

Sphere - lol

"The Razor's Edge", with Bill Murray: Synopsis: A WWI veteran postpones his engagement to seek enlightenment abroad. He returns to find that his former fiancee has married his best friend.

Yeah I know it's lame, but I really identified with Bill Murray's charachter

<< I heard about Contact only once or twice before it came out, and when it came out, I didn't hear anything.. I forgot about it till I saw it on Video, so I bought it, and Love it to death. Carl Sagan rules! >>

I agree... Contact is probably in my Top 3 movies.

idiotic suggestions? maybe you should shut up and stop talking down to people. Why insult someone's intelligence for a movie they liked? gimme a break...there was no need for that post in this thread. Or maybe we should analyze everything you say too. people like you piss me off...just get out of this thread.

anyway, I also have to agree with Ronin...i LOVE that movie but didn't hear about it until it was on video/DVD.

i don't know who got your panties in a twist but don't go rubbing it in my face.

I said vertigo because it is an under-appreciated forgotten classic. Fine, it isn't under-rated but calling my suggestion idiotic is about as redundant as posting your observation.

I would say Gattaca was an awesome frightingly real outlook
The Cube was definately a cool movie
Aumm the point of the movie (for me) was just the way those pple dealt with their situation and i liked the focus on the conversation....

To clarify my position, many or the movies listed above are excellent movies. If this thread was about under-appreciated movies, I would be chiming in about my personal favs. However, this is supposed to be about under-RATED films.

I am all for expressing opinions and discussing them when they differ from others, but we should at least be talking about the same thing.

And to answer Bhuddist's question: Monday morning and too little coffee.

I agree with Office Space. It will soon be a classic.

"Why should I change my name? He's the one that sucks."

"I'm taking the new girl from Logistics and if things go well, she'll get to see my o-face. OHH! OHH! OHH!...You know what I'm talking about...OHH!"

Too Bad this post will be at the end of the list....

YOU ALL MUST GO SEE Saving Grace !!! It is in my top 3 funniest movies of all time!!!

My g/f wanted to see it, and I thought it was just going to be a lamer or a chick flick (eww!!), but it's freakin hilarious. I don't want to reveal the plot or anything, go rent it! I have not seen any ratings for it, so I think it must be under-rated. Trust me on this one, it's worth it.

"The Whole 9 Yards" was a wickedly funny movie that really didn't get much hype at all. Probably one of the more humorous movies that I've seen in the last couple years.

'The Big Lebowski' - great comedy
'Pink Floyd, The Wall' - great soundtrack (obviously)
'Doctor Strangelove' - leap years ahead of it's time
'Microcosmos' - trippy nature flick
'Chicago Cab' - I love cabbie movies (soundtrack is loaded with Pearl Jam tunes)
'Dangerous Liasons' - Malkovitch at his best (not to mention that Uma Thurman shows her teets)
'Wild Strawberries' - highly acclaimed, but no one's seen it

and of course

'Battlefield Earth' - J/K! :D

UHF...funny as hell movie, but can't seem to find it anywhere in my town..."It's it's not 3 stars, it's not on our shelves." (then I look around to see such "classics" as the entire Friday the 13th and Police Academy series")

WTF?!?!? What about Weird Al and Krammer doesn't scream 3 stars? OK, maybe Victoria Jackson screwed up the movie, but that's about the only thing bad about it! ;)

OK, off soapbox...

agreed . . . Dark City and Starship Troopers were underrated.

disagree . . . Lost in Space was ok until the AWFUL ending which TOTALLY ruined it.

Actually I thought Wild Wild West and The Avengers were underrated. They are perfect for a small screen bargain bin rental.

Pay It Forward is an excellent movie (don't know about the ratings). The Hurricane was a good movie with great acting by Denzel BUT was rather depressing.

Red Planet (Val Kilmer's best acting ;scarcasm; haha) was pretty good and got missed in the bad bunch of Sci-Fi movies released at the same time.
