NAACP audience boos Mitt Romney's comments

I saw a little of this and Romney didn't really appear to be fazed by the booing. I think his team said they expected such. My problem with Romney is that he always seems like a robot to me. Not stiff like Al Gore, but something weird like the aliens in 'They Live'. Romney is so out of touch with people who struggle to make a living and to be able to afford health care it's not even funny. From where he's sitting we must all look like ants. A vote for Mitt is like asking to take a golden shower after he gives even more tax breaks to the filthy rich and the trickle down effect doesn't ever materialize, except for the aforementioned shower.

I agree that it was calculated... I don't agree that it was a risk. 🙂 He knew exactly what was going to happen, and he seemed gleeful when the booing started.

That said, he still gets credit for going into the lion's den.

Exactly, fodder for the Fox News demographic.

Boos? "Repeal and replace" should be booed everywhere until the Republicans actually define what they intend to replace it with. If they actually had a plan that they thought would appeal to the public, they would have shouted it from the mountaintops by now. The "just trust me" mantra is a joke, and should be treated like one.

Yes, more tax cuts for the rich will work this time, I just know it.

Yep... I cannot honestly believe the RNC is running on the "Can't cut the tax breaks on the Job Creators" bullshit mantra still. Are they seriously this out of touch and think people honestly believe the trickle down bullshit? Romney stands a far better chance of getting elected if he agreed the Bush era tax cuts on those making >$250K have to go.

The sad part is that many people still do really believe that shit.

....and spending money we don't have has worked, how?

Taxes are too damn high. Regulations are too damn many. Spending is too damn great. As far as the entitlement class is concerned, I do believe a bit of hunger is a great motivator.

Mitt Romney is running for POTUS. In case anyone didn't realize black people are citizens. The NAACP is the oldest civil rights organization in the country.

The NAACP is no longer a civil rights organization. At this point they're just a bunch of professional whiners and shakedown artists.

I have no love for Mitt Romney but it was really classless of the audience to boo him. It's what I'd expect from the NAACP though.

Taxes are too damn high.

Actually they're at their lowest level in many, many years.

Spending is too damn great.

Yes, but every realistic proposal for getting our fiscal house in order will require less spending AND higher taxes. It's an ugly reality that no one wants to face up to.

As far as the entitlement class is concerned, I do believe a bit of hunger is a great motivator.

There are a lot of freeloading pieces of shit in this country, but the programs that are really going to bankrupt us are Medicare and Social Security. The vast majority of people who benefit from those programs are productive citizens who have worked and paid into the system for most of their lives.

....and spending money we don't have has worked, how?
Well it sure stopped the bleeding, didn't it?

Taxes are too damn high. Regulations are too damn many. Spending is too damn great. As far as the entitlement class is concerned, I do believe a bit of hunger is a great motivator.
Taxes are too high? Federal taxes are lower right now than they have been for pretty much the last century. You just think they are too high because you don't know anything.

If I was there, I wouldn't have bood him, I would have thrown him out on his fvcking ass.

Isn't this the same group that applauded Shirley Sherrod, when she talked about not wanting to help a whilte farmer?

Nothing new here.

Mitt's lukewarm attempt to woo NAACP supporters turned sour when he promised to return the country to its backward-facing path and repeal the much needed healthcare reform measures. If he was attempting to sway ethnic minorities and persons of color then this constitutes a failure. These comments underscore how out of touch this man is from the needs of the American people.
Did the article mention anything about the standing ovation they gave him at the conclusion?

Why Mitt Romney's NAACP Speech Got A Standing Ovation

Of course not.

BTW - Romney also received some applause from the audience. The crowd was a little annoyed because Romney Romney used Obamacare as a perjorative. THis speech was not an attempt at outreach, he seemed to be talking over the heads of the crowd. It was more of a message to his conservative supporters, "see I can stand up to those black people"

Exactly. His goal was to annoy a particular voting demographic and to rally his base and I believe he succeeded on that front.

The idea that Mitt and his policies are better for most black people than Obama really is hilarious though. Come on, let's be honest, that's nonsense and we all know it.

You cant blame a politician for being a politician, but sometimes I truly wonder if he believes his own bullshit.

Interesting how you bring up that lie-and one that has been PROVEN repeasted to be a job of deceptive editing. I guess you missed that part, eh? Your post proves an idealogue to going to hear what he wants to hear, and the truth be dereagrded.

Why Mitt Romney's NAACP Speech Got A Standing Ovation

Of course not.

Here is the excerpt that this article praises sooo much

For every one of us a particular person comes to mind, someone who set a standard of conduct and made us better by their example. For me, that man is my father, George Romney.

It wasn’t just that my Dad helped write the civil rights provision for the Michigan Constitution, though he did. It wasn’t just that he helped create Michigan’s first civil rights commission, or that as governor he marched for civil rights in Detroit – though he did those things, too.

More than these public acts, it was the kind of man he was, and the way he dealt with every person, black or white. He was a man of the fairest instincts, and a man of faith who knew that every person was a child of God.

I’m grateful to him for so many things, and above all for the knowledge of God, whose ways are not always our ways, but whose justice is certain and whose mercy endures forever.
They boo Governor Romney's stances on certain issues and then Governor Romney has to fall back on what his father did.... Yes his father did good things but what will a President Romney do? It's what he said he would do got the boos.

Governor Romney's father also released more of his tax documents than Governor Romney....

In any case the boos are great for Governor Romney when they are shown on Fox news for the reasons other posters elaborated on previously.

Talking about the boos in one circle and then talking about the applause in another circles....
But there are doubts about them...

That applause was fake, said one top NAACP official. Hilary Shelton, the group’s vice president for advocacy, told MSNBC Wednesday night that the cheers Romney talked about actually came from Romney supporters brought in by his campaign specifically for his speech.
“Quite frankly, the campaign actually gave me a list of African-American VIPs that they brought into the NAACP meeting,” Shelton said. “They’re bringing people in that they know will support his agenda from other places, that aren’t active with the NAACP. These are people who are brought in to actually provide the cheering for him, so there will be some support along those lines.”
The Romney campaign dismissed Shelton’s comments.

“Not true,” a campaign spokesperson told MSNBC.
Perhaps conspiracy theories that you probably should take with a grain of salt, but you never know... 😛

In any case this just highlights this fact about the republican candidate....

Lulz, I love libtards. Any time they want free handouts its "forward thinking". Any time somebody suggests they stop using the government as an ATM its backward thinking. And of course they're the only "American People". Anyone who isnt with them cant be American.

How has Obama's policies made the lives of blacks better? Please be specific.

Obamacare and the resulting medicaid expansion, unemployment extension, payroll tax cut, stimulus spending etc. All which help out lower income or recently unemployed people, demographics in which black people are disproportionately represented. He hasn't really done anything targeted specifically at black people, nor should he.

He hasn't really done anything targeted specifically at black people, nor should he.

So then why did you say " idea that Mitt and his policies are better for most black people than Obama really is hilarious though. Come on, let's be honest, that's nonsense and we all know it."?

If Obama is not doing anything specifically to help black people, and he should not, then why should Mitt?
