NA spec Buick Regal revealed... and some specs

News from Tuesday's GMC-Buick dealership meeting in Detroit is now starting to trickle out in full-force. One of the highlights of the event was the showing of the 2011 Buick Regal to Buick dealerships. For months now GMI has confirmed that the Regal was coming, however yesterday GM made it official. GMI has since obtained further details about the car including the sport variant.

The Regal will be launching with two four-cylinder ECOTEC engines upon launch. The base engine is going to be the 180 HP direct injected 2.4L ECOTEC that debuted this year in the 2010 Equinox and Terrain. The up-level four-cylinder is reportedly the direct injected, turbocharged 2.0L ECOTEC with roughly 220 HP. All Regal's will come with six speed automatics standard and have optional all-wheel drive. No word on if a manual will be available on the four-cylinders.

Possibly the most exciting news about the Regal is that there will be a "sport" model. The sport trim has not yet been named, however GMI is told that "GS" is one of the names on the consideration list. This sport trim will be fitted with the 280 HP 3.6L SIDI V6 from the LaCrosse, 19" wheels and Brembo performance brakes. Like the rest of the Regal's, it will have optional AWD. Another interesting point: we're told the Regal sport trim will have an OPTIONAL SIX-SPEED MANUAL, likely the same unit from the Opel Insignia OPC.

Initial orders of the 2011 Regal will start in about six months, with full production starting in summer 2010. Although no official announcement has been made, it is expected that the car will be produced at the Oshawa, Ontario facility.

Awesome,
stuff like that is what is gonna bring the Buick brand back into the limelight.

Yes...I think we're talking a similar size there. The old Vectra felt like the size of a Mazda 6...and the new Insignia (for which the regal is essentially the same model) is supposed to be slightly larger).

i like the specs, but the car is an ugly jellybean.

oh wait, i mean, it looks awesome. like an awesome-coated pile of awesome with awesome filling.

What is so god damm difficult?

In order to sell more cars, the Government Motors should:
  • 1. Import Opel cars in here.
  • 2. Import Holden cars in here.
  • 3. Do not do any changes to the shape or spec.
  • 4. Do not drop a manual transmission option.
  • 5. Replace Opel/Holden stickers with Chevy/Buick stickers.
  • 6. Profit from an increased sales and driving enthusiasts being happy....

I mean, this is not a rocket science for crying out loud. If they would of hire me as a CEO 10 years ago, that would be already DONE and implemented. Instead, no. THE GM is trying to reinvent the wheel all the time with bunch of bullshit cars build from a stupid plastic that no one wants to buy...
Oh, and they killed the electric car too like 10 years ago...
Its really simple: Import Opels and Holdens...DO NOT FUCKEN TOUCH THEM... And profit...
Whats that sooooo hard?
Jeez?

This is what Ford did and look at their lineup of vehicles now - and their stock quote...

We don't need the Opels (in my opinion) as I would never want one. But the Holdens, either with the Holden name or rebadged would be a good choice.

Dude, that new Buick Regal is a new Opel Insignia - which is a sweet car in Europe. The new Astra is not too shabby either.
Ditto about Holdens though. The amazing think is...How difficult it is for the GM Execs to figure it out...Lol

Is this thing right wheel drive?

If so, yes please, I'll take the manual transmission 280hp version. Slap a "GN" badge on there and I'm good to go. Make it underrated too, btw.

Edit: Ack, it's AWD. Can I get it in RWD instead?

I doubt. AFAIK, it's FWD based with AWD option (Epsilon II platform). So, no RWD.

Everything but this. Opel/Holden logos are MUCH better. I'd rather be seen in a Holden Monaro than a Pontiac GTO.
