OK, so you hit 280 FSB and use a 5:6 divider and throw voltage at your ddr400 ram so it can hit 233. Why am i noticing a trend of dividers and using ddr 400 ram? wouldn't you Ideally want like ddr 600 in this case so you can run in 1:1 ratio? I mean it looks like your guys's ram becomes the bottleneck now with your super high FSB's running with dividers. Is the main reason everbody uses 3200 and cranks it up mainly for price reasons? Anybody use ddr600 in 1:1 ration? PLease advise

Cost of ownership..

If you can run a divider, and keep performance relatively close.. SAVE SOME MONEY!

With the A64's ondie memory controller overclocking your ram 1:1 puts additional stress on the CPU and limits your overclock. Thats why all the best overclocks are acheived with a divider on A64's. And its been proven over and over that high ram speeds provide very little performance improvements on A64's. IMHO high speed rated ram is a waste of money on the A64's, just get decent DDR400 value ram and put the money you save into a better CPU or GPU. There is a good article on Anand's front page regarding this check it out.

Kensai pretty much summed it up, lol. I dont have all my rig yet but I went with DDR 400 (G.Skill 2-3-3-6) when choosing my ram. Under a bill for 1 gig dual channel, cant beat that. Since using a divider doesn't hurt performance I didnt feel the need to shell out for the fancy stuff. The CPU is where you're going to notice the most difference when overclocking. So the bang of the extra buck for higher memory speed didnt seem to add up to me.

Dont get me wrong, I know some people cant have anything less then max performance. Thats cool. But if you're on a budget its best to do some research and judge where the money is going to and what performance you'll likely get out of it in return. Ram seems to be on the lower end of that spectrum from what Ive gathered.

ok thx guys..I'll just go with ddr400 and use what ever ratio it takes to keep ram at 200-220 range and use the money I save to buy Battlefield 2 when it comes out..sweet
