Most schools do, I remember checking Oedipus Rex and The Illiad when I was in school. I think I nearly got around to Dante's Inferno before I discovered pot. It was all downhill from there though.

3. Librarys cater to the openness of ideas, not bonfires
Reading books about sodomy does not turn you into a sodomite, but my kids have no business reading that either
Just beacause people are bothered by this type of book at this age does not make them ignorant nor backwards
librarys often cater to radical left wing agendas and radical objectives, this book CLEARLY carries an agenda.
oppression of freedom of independent thought is definitely a left-wing objective;Originally posted by: Zephyr106

Yeah Romans, like that radical left wing idea of not having an authoritarian state.

otherwise the term 'bigot' wouldn't be thrown around so idiotically, as it's 'OK' to censor bigots, isn't it? and it's OK to censor those that want to 'oppress' you, isn't it? and it's wrong to allow people to 'force' their religion down your through, isn't it?

My apologies to anyone who I unfairly made feel inferior, threatened or at-risk. God has given me a reminder to put some well thought out ideas that truly represent God into things I publicly speak about rather than blurting out the first thing that comes to mind , no matter how strong my reactive feelings are.
My feelings are that schools should not be contradicting fundamental beliefs of children's parents. In High School kids can be exposed to political opinions etc. in my view but only as long as all points of view are covered. Nothing should be presented as being the correct opinion by the teachers.

Agreed.
Either allow both (which I'd prefer) or ban both. If kids can read the bible, they should be allowed to read about gays. If people claim gay books have an agenda, they should also acknowledge that the bible (or any religious book for that matter) has an agenda.

Actually I would argue that "The Bible" itself does not have an agenda, its really a rather open minded book covering all points of view, its the reader who decides how it applies if at all.
If one of my sons would have brought a book like that home when they were kids I'm sure we would of had countless hours of hilarity making fun of it!The gay book does have a particular "goal" in mind

Why do you say that, the Bible does not "scream" be a Christian or anything else....... You REALLY HAVE TO DIG it out

You dont mean countless hours of homophobic behavior and gay bashing do you?

I would say the Bible does have a "goal" in mind as well. To spread the word of God/Jesus and try to get as many people as it can to believe its ideology. Don't see how it would be any diffirent from a book about (or with) gays. Also, both _COULD_ (And in the Bibles case, has been) be used by dubious characters to spread their own agendas.

Already have, I've just formed an opinion as to what I think the Bible is trying to do. This may come as a surprice to you, but I wasn't always like this. I just had a little reality check some years back and since then my opinion of religion as a whole (not just the bible) has been pretty low.
Also, I could ask you to do the same thing. As I seem to recall you telling another christian in another thread some time ago what YOU thought the Bible was about and that HE was wrong in how to perceived the bible and that his way of christianity was wrong.
Edit: We're getting off topic again, Romans828 (Talk about deja-vu). Lets stop hijacking the thread with Bible discussions and get back to the topic at hand, which is gay books![]()
