Wasn't VW close to bankruptcy when they came out with the New Beetle?

I'd call them more than kinks. They've got them selves into some serious trouble with the quality issues they've had lately. Class action suits left and right.

I thought about buying a gti or a golf when I got my accord coupe. those sites convinced me not to buy a VW. My friend has a 99 jetta, and the dealers f-cked with her all the time about the car, recommending unneeded service or telling her things were fine when they weren't. Her dad is a mechanic and doubled checked alot of the things they told her, and the dealership was consistently wrong.

I've had a '00 Jetta since October '99 and I've had no major problems. The only service I've need was all under warranty. Unfortunately, I have to turn it in this fall, but it's just a station car these days anyway. I'd love a GTI but I can't justify getting new wheels to drive 5 miles to the train station.

I have a 1999 Passat GLX that has been flawless.

But I agree, the majority of US VW dealerships are horrible.

I just bought an 84 Jetta GLi w/over 360K miles.
It runs like a clock and I love it.

No, seriously, VW's have problems, which is why I didn't buy one when I was car shopping recently. The sad thing is that one of my co-workers did buy a new VR6 Jetta (ironically, the same weekend I bought my new WRX, just over 3 weeks ago). I already have over 1500 miles on my Rex (trip to the southern Oregon coast this past weekend, beautiful) and haven't had even the smallest problem while her Jetta only has ~400 miles on it and has been back to dealer service 3 times already... and then wouldn't even start this morning. Needless to say, she is not happy.

lol what a joke.. tell her to take that scrap back for a full refund and buy a quality car instead!

My Audi TT rocks. But I'm not going to go buy a domain, and setup a website to say that.
