Anyone remember this game from 97? I think of this game every few years like i do Vampire: Bloodlines.

It was a fantastic RTS game that focuses primarily on combat as there wasn't any base building. The story was progressed with journal entries at the start of each level.

Don't think they will ever make another one past 3 but i would love it if they did.

I agree with you guys, Myth was an awesome RTS, but sadly since Bungie sold the rights for the series I don't think we would ever see another Myth game by the original people.

I'm pretty sure people still run servers for all 3 games, and FYI people have made community patches to allow the games to run at higher resolutions and allow it to run in newer OS's (up into Vista and 7 actually).

Anyway this site hosts a ton of files for the series, including the new patches for each game and custom maps and campaigns and stuff like that.

Myth 3 was made by Mumbo Jumbo and wasnt quite as polished as the first two. I really liked the voice overs, cut scenes, and art work in general of the first 2. I hope they show up on GOG soon.

I remember when the very first copies of myth 2 hit the shelves and were recalled shortly after for a bug that would wipe your C: drive if you uninstalled the game. Game was still a ton of fun.

Edit for link: http://www.projectmagma.net/ User made mods and patches for myth games, worth looking at if you still play or are interested in myth.

Myth was my favorite RTS during that time, enough so I would jump on Bungie.net to play other folks. I haven't done that with any other RTS before or after.

I remember the game but I was young and found it to be extremely difficult, even on the easiest of difficulties.

Despite only ever managing to do a handful of missions it was definitely a very good game, better than it was ever given credit for.

Myth was great, but I don't think we'll ever see another one.

Bezerkers run towards archers, archers fire at them:
..."casualty"...

..."casualty"...

Bezerkers reach archers:
..."casualty casualty casualty casualty casualty casualty"...

LoL it was great how casually he said it, like half your army gets blown up and he's just like "Casualties" with no emotion at all.

I think part of the reason it didn't get huge was because it came out right before Starcraft, and Bungie was kind of unknown in the RTS market at the time. I enjoyed Myth more than SC though, it had a way better story and imo the MP was a lot more fun.

It was alot of fun but it didn't have the fanbase it needed to be a big name game. My guess is if you ask any gamer under the age of 22 or so what Myth is they won't have a clue (of course, I had a bunch of 9th and 10th graders ask me what StarCraft was yesterday...D: ).

Still, nothing as awesome as as getting your army slaughtered only to have your Wight sneak up behind the enemy and suicide blow them to pieces.

Yeah, I doubt many Halo fans have even heard of Myth, even though it was made by the same company. It would be awesome to see Bungie buy back the rights to Myth and make a Myth IV, but that's so unlikely my head would prolly explode if it actually happened lol.

Yeah, I picked up the Full Codex a few years back but never got too far into it.

The controls were not exactly intuitive and the graphics would kinda warp around the edges.

Definitely a hard game, both in gameplay and controls.

Ahhh, Myth. What a great game in a fun universe. It was obvious the devs had read Cook, with the whole "Taken" thing and the supergrim universe. Made for a great game. I always wished I could turn into a bunch of crows and fly away like Soulblighter, preferrably whenever my girlfriend wants to talk about commitment.

I remember Myth, but never played it due to its lack of ... gameplay.

...

Wait. I'm thinking of Myst.

Myth I & II were great, and a royal PITA. I can still hear that voice over, 'casualty... casualty... casualty'
Just like the other guy said. I loved the dwarves with the kegs of explosives. Damn, that was a really good game.

Oh my god Myth was my first real taste of online gaming. I would rush to Bungie net to host games with some friends. Hilarious fun.

My favorite was the big slow zombies that imploded and destroyed everything including the dorfs satchels.

There was just something insanely addicting about it.

I am currently playing myth 2 with the 1.7 patch that allows nicer resolutions and a few graphic affects.

Surprisingly at 1920 x 1080 it looks pretty nice, or at least a ton better then it does at 640x800.

I was defending a library while a journeyman looked for the codex. Wight snuck up on me during one of the bigger battles and BOOM...casualties.

Man, THAT was a crazy mission! I remember that each hard mission gave such a sense of accomplishment when it was finished. Like I'd done something really heroic, and it was all worth it despite the losses.

What were the cool Heron Guard names? Twelve Stone Bloody Jaguar? Thirteen Window Smoke Eagle? Awesome.

Yeah the online was really fun, I got into the crown ranks for the 1st game but I had crappy internet for the 2nd game and didn't get into it much.

IMO Myth II Soulblighter historically is still in third place as far as the best strategy games of all time only behind only Rome Total War and Age of Empires. Still looks good too.

As far as storyline goes...Myth II was the most engrossing I have ever encountered. Youtube it.

Yeah the storyline through Myth 1 and 2 were fantastic, I really liked how you saw the story from the POV of a common soldier rather than being some faceless commander like in a lot of RTS's.
