Here's an alterative to IE that you may want to try out.

UPDATED SCREENIE: Text
DOWNLOAD HERE: http://myie2.com/html_en/download.htm
DIRECT LINK: http://dl.downloadhosting.com/...load/myie2/m2combo.exe

Lets do the basics:
Tabbed Browsing
======================================
More info click here
MyIE2 does this BY default. No need for Tabbrowser Extensions like FF. Tabs can be resized, at will, and MyIE2 opens them all in one window. "Tabbed browsing doesn't require any extensions, you can get more advanced functionality through extensions though (in Firefox)" Thx Sunner

MyIE2: Yes
FF: Yes, but need extensions for advanced functionality
Opera: Yes
Netscape: No
IE: No

Mouse Gestures
======================================
More info click here
SIMPLE mouse gestures for Next Window/Previous window. UP and LEFT/RIGHT for the direction. Nothing like FF which complicates things. Want to close a window? DOWN RIGHT. Close them ALL? DOWN LEFT. It's the most natural way of browsing. Of course, back and forward are LEFT and RIGHT respectively.

MyIE2: Yes, BUILT IN.
FF: Yes, plugin.
Opera: Yes
Netscape: No
IE: No

Load times/Support
======================================
I've seen a lot of FF people whine and complain about how pages don't load properly for them. That's because IE is still 95% of the population. So get the one that works like FF but processes pages like IE! MyIE2 uses the IE core, so all the pages come out right without bad formatting.

MyIE2: Yes, support for majority.
FF: Most of the time
Opera: Most of the time
Netscape: Most of the time
IE: Yes

Super Drag and Drop
======================================
More info click here
This is a feature from what I've seen is only in MyIE2. Click and DRAG and LINK off just by a second, and it'll open in a new window. Really now, how often do you use the middle button? Just stick with the left button, click and drag. The link opens in a new window and loads IN THE BACKGROUND while you surf.. so the page will be loaded when you move windows. A quick swipe, much better than a middle button.

Closed that window by accident? Just click the Undo button and get that window back.

MyIE2: Yes!
Opera: Yes, but needs to be configured (Thanks rainypickles)
All the rest: No

Ad Blocking/Privacy
======================================
More info click here and here
FF is VERY annoying with the plugins. Ad blocking is BUILT INTO MyIE2 at one click of a button. Turn it off/on with one click. Blocks the ads even on ATOT. Clears your cookies/history on exit (most browsers do as well). "Adblocking/Imageblocking doesn't require any extensions, you can get more advanced functionality through extensions though" Thx Sunner

MyIE2: Built IN.
FF: Yes, but for more functionality, extentsions can be used
Opera: No, IIRC
Netscape/IE: No

Skins
======================================
More info click here
Enough said. Just pick your own here.

External Utilites
======================================
More info click here
Acts as your own little Explorer. Contains links to Add/Remove programs, regedit, notepad, anything you want. Also comes with applets that let you VIEW SOURCE ANY PAGE or GRAB ANY FLASH ANIMATION with a click of a button.

Supports the Googlebar
======================================
More info click here
Self explanatory. This is IF YOU WANT IT, like Pagerank (For SEOs = search engine optimizers like me).
You can pull up Google straight from the address bar. No "g" prefix required! "FF has a Google search(ctrl-k) in the upper right, and as I said, popup blocking is enabled by default." Thx Sunner

MyIE2: Plugin
FF: Yes
Opera: IIRC No
Netscape: No
IE: Yes, Plugin

Screenshot of MyIE2: Text

I just want to put a good word out, I've used most public browsers (FF/IE/Opera/Avant/MyIE2/Netscape) and from my experience this comes out on top. FF has a lot of features, but can't display pages correctly all the time and has some trouble setting up. IE is good, but no features.

Let me know what you think. My first long post here at ATOT.. ;)

I use opera, and your middle button argument is stupid IMO.
I think it's far easier to click the middle button than to drag the mouse.
You can easily configure it to load under the current webpage.

Also, Opera must have adblocking, because I've never had ONE popup/under.

Edit: Also, screw the googlebar... to search google i just type my search critera in the address bar and prefix it with a "g"
That example of the browser looks waaay too cluttered for my tastes.

i use opera and have something similar to super drag and drop. i set it up (or it was default) to right drag a link down to open a new tab in the background. so its a mouse gesture, but it works the way you describe. (i'm pretty sure i set it up specifically for this, but yeah, its possible in opera)

in opera, if you go to window->closed, you can open windows you have opened recently. ctrl-alt-z does the most recently closed.

as for the googlebar, i've never used it. afaik, it is just used to search google =). opera has that google box, and you can even type things in the address bar like "g jessica alba" to search for alba or "z jessica alba" to search amazon for alba.

opera doesnt really have an ad blocker, but i havent seen i popup in forever.

another longtime myie2/maxthon user.....still FF is my browser of choice at home though.

do you have a problem with maxthon not displaying all the images on a page, ie., on the forums? it won't load an icon or something...but if I right-click on it and hit "display image" it works then. go fig....

hmmm. you say all this stuff is extentions that have to be installed & configured in ff, maybe you're using an old version.

google support? well i see a google search bar, good enough for me (i don't use the toolbar anyway).
tabbed browsing? was installed & preconfigured for me. no work at all. very easy to use.
loading pages? haven't found anything yet that doesn't load for me.
ad blocking? it's got a nice popup blocker, otherwise i'm fine.

i dunno, i tried myie2 and didn't care for it, so i'm back to firefox. seems to work great for me. but whatever works best for you is what you should use.

I respect your comments. The drag is just a slight drag, hardly anything. Middle button is your prefrence, that's fine. In MyIE2 you don't even need a "g".. just type it in the box. the Googlebar is there IF you actually want it.

The browser in that pic shows all the features. Let me show you my screenshot.

Hmm.. to be honest, I haven't had that problem. I did have a problem with the scrollbars in Maxthon, so I'm using MyIE2 until the final for Maxthon comes out.

That looks way better.
I might try this browser.
Some integrated windows media player stuff just doesn't work in Opera, maybe I'll fare better with myie2.

Surprise surprise, uses less memory than Firefox. :) But that's a good comment, if you're using IE (barebones). Try it and you won't be disappointed.

right, but in opera, you do it from the address bar. so "g firefox" searches google for firefox. "z firefox" (in the address bar) searches amazon for firefox. i have it configured so that "d callipygian" searchs m-w.com for the word. so if you have a decent memory and search multiple sites for things, these kinds of shortcuts can do it.

with that said, you can do this in IE too. it's a registry thing. you can do it in tweakUI too. try http://www.poremsky.com/p/search_bar.htm or http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1065/ .

btw, you should look up the word callipygian. ;o)

Thanks. I was already aware you can do this in IE. And you can do this in MyIE2 too.. just in the address bar. ;)

edit: should clarify.

I like FF a lot but it looks like MyIE2 has some great features as well. Perhaps I'll check it out and compare :)

to all the opera fanbois.....don't you have problems rendering a lot of pages? I tried opera for awhile, but it won't display my local newspaper (www.lsj.com). FF does it. IE variations does it. I figure if FF works then the code *should* be ok. Whats the deal with Opera? I find myself mostly browsing with FF, and if something doesn't work right, I use myie2/maxthon. I find the popup killing of FF to be better than myie2, also, though.

it displays www.lsj.com but it does some really funny stuff. things flicker in and out and generally suck. opera indeed messes some pages up, but i dont run into those very often. most notably, gmail doesnt work on opera yet. i thought that opera was super strict on code, so things look messed up, but i might have just imagined that.

in anandtech, the quick reply boxes don't show up unless it identifies as IE or mozilla (fails when it IDs as opera).

though opera is not perfect, i like it better than IE (what ISNT better?) and more than firefox. most pages load fine for me.

I've used Opera for over a year, and that is actually the first page that I've had trouble with.

I'm still using crazybrowser. That app needs an update. Anyone know when the next version of IE is coming out? I heard that will have a nicer exposed API so we can all write our own extensions on top of it (at least more easily than now)
