I do see your point about getting a better sub. My entertainment room is 18' by 11' with the viewing position pretty much in the center of the room. My previous setup had been adequate to my ears. But as I am audio n00bic and you are the Soundman I value your opinion. So if you say I would be better off with better speakers I believe you. But Sub+Receiver+Speakers will start pushing my budget. What speakers would you recommend?

It's hard to recommend something since sound is such a personal thing, but I have some suggestions in the sticky thread at the top of this area.
The $169/pair ($139 center) X-Series from AV123 would be my first suggestion for a low cost but high quality speaker option for you.
That doesn't include shipping though, so it's going to be beyond your budget if you get a subwoofer and receiver as well.
If you liked what the Logitech Sats were doing in your room, then getting a basic receiver and a decent subwoofer for now would probably be a good start. You can always add to the system later if you choose to do so.
You could probably get something like the Polk R-series worked into the budget along with a budget receiver and budget subwoofer, but based on the room size and your ability to destroy subwoofers, I think doing the subwoofer right the first time would be a safer bet than a budget one.

Or just don't push the system past what it can do 🙂

Is the system still under warranty? I had my old logitech 5.1 sub blow out and all I had to do is send them the power cord cut from the sub and they sent me a brand new system, speakers and all.

Don't worry, I'm not blaming you. And for $50 more for a new version, I'm not complaining! 😀

Generally speaking, those small systems cannot be pushed safely. They are cheap enough that the safeguards are just cut out to save money. Not necessarily a bad trade-off, you just have to be conscious about it and not crank it past its limits.

Oh I know, just kidding about that before 😉
