My youtube vids just got hit by that copyright BS crap :/

They're removing audio on videos now :/ They've been doing this for a while. Guess you have to be a music producer to put a video on youtube now. Sucks ass.

Anyone know how to make a .flv file? I'm just going to host these videos myself when this happens.

meh. its not like youtube is the only video site on the internet. and if you host it yourself you better have some decent upstream bandwidth.

Then what happens when YOU get hit by the copyright crap from the music producers. Youtube is only covering their own ass.

Yeah that's the thing, would use tons of bandwidth. I have 2500GB/mo to play with, but if I start hosting lot of videos that can get used up fast.

Then there's always the whole lawsuit risk. Copyright is the most retarded thing ever. Greedy bastards.

Suppose I can find a program that can generate music and start making my own tracks for videos I make. Or I wonder if I remix existing songs if they can still cry copyright on it.

You might check out sites like Jamendo. There is a lot of copyleft music out there, some of it actually pretty darn good. If you asked the artist's permission they probably wouldn't mind you using it for non-commercial purposes. If your videos are relatively popular, the free publicity would probably help them out a bunch.

Hmm sounds interesting, I'll check into that.

I posted a lip synch video of myself from high school (20 years ago), lip synching the Village people. It was filmed with a VHS camcorder, and the audio was a bit crappy - and yet Youtube still banned it!

That's pretty sad. This copyright crap is going way too far. I've even heard of them removing audio on videos that have a song playing in the background. In fact I recall a RIAA case where a mother got sued for putting up a video of her kid, and the radio was playing in the background.

Well they own the music, they have every right to protect their copyrights. It would be nice if they were more accepting of non-commercial use, but oh well. If you really want to stick it to them, find some good copyleft music to use for your videos. The large labels will be marginalized in due time -- It's a dying business model, in this day and age you don't need the resources of a large label to make good music.

How about you don't put other people's shit on youtube? Make your own god damned music, or are you too dumb to do so?

Stop whining about copyright laws.

1. It doesn't change anything.
2. It makes you sound stupid.

GEE WHY DON'T PRODUCERS WANT THE PRODUCTS THEY MAKE BEING ENJOYED FOR FREE???

Hmm, I wonder.

I think it is because they will not make money.

If copyrights expired in a reasonable amount of time, I'd feel a little bad for copyright holders. The fact that stuff written before my great grandfather was born can still be under copyright is just silly.

Don't just buy your girlfriend a diamond ring - get a copyright on it.

Yes, because everybody knows how to play instruments and make their own music. 😵

Then no music for you on Youtube, why is that so hard to imagine?

Well it is fair use....the RIAA lawyers just don't understand the concept of "Fair Use." The record labels are so used to getting paid for each time their song is played, that they demand it. You can always file an response to their take down message saying you had every right to use the music. Or even better make a parody that goes viral!

Entertainment Companies are ruthless bastards who will do anything to get another cent and "protect" their content. Tech Dirt has some interesting articles:

Is Technology On The Verge Of Killing Copyright Dead?
In the UK but still...
Why is building on the work of others considered Infringement?

The 1920s called. They want their antiquated copyright laws back.
