So let me get this straight:

1. She's a brand new driver with as much experience driving as a 16-year-old.
2. She's already totaled a car that was still worth $10k+.
3. She wants you to buy her another expensive car.
4. She's pissed that you're hesitating at buying one.

Where, exactly, did she get the notion that you owe her anything? She ruined your car and should be fucking ecstatic that you're willing to let it slide and get another one so she can keep driving.

Did her parents spoil her rotten growing up? Is there other information you're leaving out? What's the deal? Because as it stands now, her position sounds about as reasonable as that of a spoiled teenager, not a 30-year-old woman.

That about sums it up for me.... she on the other hand has her side of the story, and She wants to post this, but after dinner...

Side of what story??? She totaled her car cus she was driving too fast, has damaged her car before that, and is very inexperienced. No one like that deserves a new car. You sure found a keeper

whoa, whoa here, lets not take this to that level. She has chosen not to be a driver for the past 10yrs, and that is fine. We used to live close to work for her, now we live further out, and she need to get herself to work.

She is a sweet woman... but well yeah... it is what it is.

Just get her a simple car. The car you want to get her sounds more than enough for her needs.

This is why we need to hear her side of the story. You are, by definition, biased, so I feel uncomfortable judging your wife's position based solely on what you've said. But from what I've heard so far, it really doesn't sound like you owe her anything.

When I was growing up, I was extremely happy to get any car I could. When my parents let me have their '91 Corolla, I was jumping for joy. I wasn't pissed that it wasn't the brand new Civic that I really wanted. I know many people have such a sense of entitlement they refuse to appreciate the things people give them because they're not good enough. Personally I think that's a very childish and immature viewpoint, especially coming from someone who clearly demonstrated that she still needs practice driving.

From the sounds of it, before you buy her another car, she needs to go to driving school. Not just a one-day class, but a lengthy intensive driving school. MAYBE after she completes that she can have another car. 😀
(I'm sure that'd go over well.) 😛

This thread also reminds me of how happy I am to be single. Too bad my parents and family keep pushing for me to get a GF.

Being single means I don't need to deal with stuff like that. Everything I own is mine and only mine.

Be single and just date chicks. Problem solved.

Just tell her you're thinking hard about the Animal House Deathmobile, something to match her style of driving.

I wouldn't let her drive at all, given that she cannot "control" the car while driving. How in the world was she given a license in the first place? Let her go back to driving school to be safe side. I've seen too many accident because of drivers loosing control of their car. Glad she is okay.

My girl is the same. She spotted a small animal that had just been hit by a car, she stopped in the busy road at night and picked it up and rushed it to the animal ER.

I am sorry to hear your missus had a crash. Get her a safe car, like the toyota yaris. They dont have too much power and they scored the best small car. Efficient too.

Other option is a paladin tank, but someone already pointed out that you might have issues with the local transport department.

THAT sounds familiar. Conversation can turn into a landmine.
A dishwasher, Friday, a job, driving....take your pick, anything can remind my dad, "When are you going to get a girlfriend?"

At least he doesn't mention grandkids anymore.

You're like, 23 or 24, right? Wait a few years, it'll get worse. 😉
Unless you get a girlfriend. 😛

they instruct you in NY state to just run over anything smaller then a golden retriever in classes you are requires to take to get your license, Hell unless you are going over 50 hitting a deer is better then swerving and adding risk to yourself and anyone else on the road

I've often wondered what it's like to drive as a woman. Is it like an automatic .1 BAC?

Good LOL on that one...

There are always situations when even the most experienced drivers loose control, its just a matter of how you handle yourself. Of course she doesn't have allot of experience dealing with critters in the road.

How about this? She can get a non-beater car IF she takes and completes one of those defensive driving / stunt driving courses that teaches her how to react when bad things happen, like how to handle the car so as not to fishtail, how to come out of a slide, etc.

Yeah I'mm 23 and I sense it will get worse with time. It's not just my parents that do it, it's everyone. People are always asking me "do you have a girlfirend yet?" First of all, no and that's not important to me now, second of all, none of your business!"

I would need to like move way out of town or something LOL. I'm the type of person that likes to be alone and have my own privacy and solitude. I bought a house so I can do that, why should I introduce someone in my life that will become my boss AND own my things that I've earned. I really don't see the value in that.

The situation here is a great example of that too. I wonder who paid for that original car. 😛

Civic's are a very safe small car, but I would stick to an earlier one before you get her a nice newer one.

Make sure you get ABS too.

Is your wife asian? 🙂

Seriously, glad she's ok! I hope she calms down and agrees to take a defensive driving course or get more instruction so she can become a safer driver. 🙂
