If I lived close to you I'd head over with some beer and classic star treks. There are some great episodes.

 The writing is pretty good.

My son and I watched the Menagerie I & II last night. All 80 episodes are available on Netflix and I've been introducing him to some of the best ones bit by bit. The fact that a 13 year old (who is going on 20) finds them interesting enough to watch speaks volumes about how good the Original Series is. He won't spend 5 minutes in the room when I'm watching Fast & Loud. :D

Despite the campy sets it is well written and the acting is decent. Star Trek really was a groundbreaking series full of social commentary and vision for the future. It still holds up well today IMO.

I met, talked to and interviews James Doohan in the past. He was a COMPLETE and utter asshole. I mean total fuck stick.

That being said, I hate Star Trek :)

Mark Hammil was a SUPER cool dude.

Beer is key watching the old episodes it enhances them

I tried watching all of everything several years ago, and I do tend to have one or two types of substances coursing through my veins whenever engaging in such activities.

TOS, I only lasted 2 and a half episodes maybe. I did make a point to watch the Kahn episode, and thought that was pretty good for the time. I had to skip most of the Next Generation because it was generally terrible outside of about 5 or 6 episodes.

I thought Deep Space Nine was overall rather solid, but also very stupid at times. The main head dude was a terrible actor. I think it had the best long-running stories of the bunch, what with the Dominion and the Kardashian family and the shapeshifter dude and his slime people. I was entertained by Voyager, even though much of it was admittedly stupid. Still, it was the most entertaining of those, as I really like the theme of being stranded out in the middle of nowhere and having to figure shit out. Plus, none of that boardroom politics horseshit. I thought Enterprise was pretty awesome, all things considered. I don't generally like "prequels," but for this series I found the idea of the humans/federation learning how to not fuck up the universe by proceeding to fuck up everything they encountered was pretty sweet. I liked the primary bad/good guy and his race that they were working with/fighting throughout the series. Whoever that actor was is the best in all of Star Trek, imo ...but then that time travel hogwash near the end muddled things up.
Oh, and T-Pol: holy shit.

I think if I was living in 1964 and tripping balls most of the time, TOS would be rather groovy. But nearly all of those shows are super dated, even though I can appreciate how revolutionary TOS was at the time, and more socially than simple TV entertainment.

I imagine it would also help a lot if you hadn't already seen the re-runs literally hundreds of times long before the likes of Netflix*, etc were invented. There are a few episodes I could still watch today, but for the most part, no substance known to science could let me sit through Yet Another Viewing of William Shatner's "acting" in anything resembling a conscious state... (Speaking of which, that guy must seriously rank -and rank high - among the top 12 "luckiest dumb-fucks who just happened to be in the right place at the right time" throughout all of known history...)

Should watch balance of terror.

You would've needed, at the very least, serious megadoses of your hallucinogen-of-choice, considering that Star Trek didn't air until 1966.:D

I swear...every time this thread happens, I can only think about this:

http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/trekkies/n9511

:D
Never even understood the whole Trekkie thing myself, much less have ever been one... But having grown up during a time when, so it was said, the original show was being re-run (on broadcast TV of course) somewhere in the world every hour of every day, 365 days a year [ETA: and any given geographical location had at most, say, 7 functional TV channels all told;)], it would have taken serious effort not to have absorbed a certain amount of trivia...^_^

I'm definitely not a Trekkie. I've never been to a convention nor do I own or dress up in Starfleet uniforms. I don't have blueprints for the Enterprise nor do I collect Star Trek related junk of any kind.

I am definitely a fan but no way would I call myself a Trekkie/Trekker.

Although, I think I'll keep the bookmark. Those always come in handy. :sneaky:
