My wife and I test drove a 2016 Lexus GX460

Yawn, we get it you only drive lexuses, won't buy anything else, and keep test driving them. And because its a Lexus and an suv, its now suddenly OK. I'm sure if they brought out a fancier sienna with a Lexus badge a minivan would suddenly be amazing.

I don't understand why you are pimping a Highlander to someone who wants a Lexus. They are completely different experiences. Clearly your focus is on the cheapest way to get out of driving a car for its lifetime, whereas a Lexus or BMW or Audi driver has completely different expectations.

As a person who owns both Lexus and Toyota vehicles, I'd say a Toyota is 90% decent enough, especially the ones in the higher trims. Some Lexus vehicles aren't really cross comparable like the Lexus LS but if you're looking at a lower trim Lexus, cross shopping a Toyota is a very sensible thing to do. If having that Lexus badge is really that important, even if it's entry level, then you're just an ignorant shopper. Driving an ES350 makes me wish I had a Camry instead because the price premium for this vehicle just makes no sense as it's too similar to the Camry in every way. Yes the vehicle was paid for long ago, but I can't help but be reminded of the stupid Lexus tax that was paid on this vehicle every time I drive it.

Well, to be fair she's a realtor and in a position like that you have to sell your image as much as your services. When you have to carry clients around (who are depending on you closing a $500K+ transaction), a Chevy Cruze won't do the job.

But a Highlander Hybrid will do just fine. Any realtor that thinks she needs a stupid expensive vehicle says to me that she is collecting too high of a commission! In my area I'm surrounded by realtors. The only thing that is important is that their cars are in tip top shape and aren't cramped/cheap. Driving a Lexus doesn't make you a better realtor.

Maybe there is some psychological advantage conferred by the perception that a higher class person would stoop to helping a peon.

Do realtors even bother driving clients around anymore? I don't see that in LA but then again I'm not in the market for $2m homes. $500k doesn't even get you into a decent area....

My realtor has an IS250 that's...broken in. Fine by me.

The 460 is the overseas Prado right? I LOVED the Prado we had in Australia.

and maybe you will stfu about us people having trucks. 😀

my pickup gets better mileage than the 460. avg. 17.4 for the last 1000 miles or so, driving up for a 4 day ski trip in Vail, and back, plus a few weeks of city commuting.

the 460 gets 15 to 16 on fuelly.

Occasionally she does. She had an IS250 for a number of years. It is way too small.

Edit-Oh, and the IS only averaged 21 mpg. Her ES is rated at 21/31 but according to the computer she averages around 19 mpg. I guess the RX350 we drove would be about the same as her ES. The GX would probably be a couple mpg worse.

I drove the Mercedes-Benz GLE350. Wasn't blown away by it quite frankly and reliability isn't top notch with Mercedes either.

I'd like to drive the X5 but she seems set on the GX460. She prefers it to the 2016 RX350 we drove last month. I'll probably give the X5 a test drive sometime in the coming months. I've driven a friend's X5 (his has the V8 engine) and it is very nice but expensive.

The Lexus has the better reliability out of those 3 by far.

The 4Runner isn't offered with a V8 engine. Also, the GX is a little longer and a little taller but not quite as wide as the 4Runner. They do have the same wheelbase though.

The 120-series 4Runner did have a V8 option. The roofline of the GX is also higher (at least for the 470; unsure on the GX460).

It sounds like a hybrid is perfect for her. Also, if you're selling houses to millenials, having a hybrid vehicle is a +. Last realtor in my area has a ES300h.

How can millenials afford homes when they're looking for handouts from Bernie?

In the SFbay, the millenials buying houses are flush with cash due to Silicon Valley. The people here are in their own bubble and do not want Bernie Sanders unless they've completely lost their minds.

Yeah... that's a totally different Bay, man. This one is with the Coronado Bridge, not the Bay Bridge or Golden Gate Bridge.

Yeah right. And yet the SF Bay Area in general leans so far left they might fall off the flat earth. I find that hard to fathom. These folks all stick to their pipe dreams.

Anyway, I shouldn't have introduced P&N to this so I'll stop.

Anybody with money who actually earned it does not want Bernie elected unless they've completely lost their minds.

We both really liked it. It would replace her Lexus ES350 which we leased almost 2 years ago. She works out of the house and does the carpool to school for our son and two of his friends so we're thinking an SUV might not be a bad choice (she absolutely will not drive a minivan).

It is quiet, very very comfortable and roomy. Engine is smooth and has enough power IMO. Plus, this thing can tow up to 7,000lbs with no trouble. Would be nice to just throw my mountain bike in the back and go instead of mounting the hitch rack on my Camry.

She liked the truck like ride and the fact that you can see over pretty much anything else on the road. Honestly, for a vehicle with a body on frame chassis it didn't ride like a truck. It was quite comfortable.

These things are very capable off-road too so I would take it camping or to the desert to go shooting. I could see a few trips out to the middle of nowhere to do some star gazing with my telescope too.

Get a Prius. You don't need one, you hack.

One more cager.
