I didnt think the fan noise would get to me but dam.......the x1900xtx gets hot and the fans kick up more than i would like to hear. I overclocked my x1900xtx only to put it back to stock settings. Fans are to much.

Any else think the fan is bothersome? I have to admit......Nvidia really has the cooling solution nailed down.

Grow up and get water cooling. The highend silence freak demands it these days with 400+ watt computers.

My pc is loud...i dont mind the noise from fans. What i do mind is the sound that comes from the ATI card.....its much different pitch than the other fans. Thats whats bugging me.

I will look into the silencers.

Well I agree with the stock fan being annoying (from the reviews it seems this way) but if the mainstream $500-$550(hopefully) G71 uses the heatpipe cooler I'll buy one and eat my current vid card for breakfast.(zalman cooler and all).

How do you know it's not an expensive cooler design? The only other card it's been used on was those extreme editions and they don't sell them anymore, but when they did they were significantly more expensive than regular GTX cards.

Ever seen a Quadro 4500, smart guy? ;) The cooler was already tried and tested on a workstation card.

And in case you haven't seen it:

WOW, that cooler looks oddly familiar.

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont mean the card. that link is a link blah blah blah read......DIRECT X9.1????????
does anyone know if this is the same as DX9.0c?

After coming from an Arctic Silenced x800xt pe, the x1800xt seemed quite loud but you'll adapt in a couple of days. If not, I believe they are coming out with a new aftermarket cooler you might want to look into:

Weird, the fan on my BFG was more than annoying enough to warrant the purchase of a 3rd party cooler.

I bought a NV Silencer for both of my BFG GTX's.

The X1K heatsinks much really be louder than the X850XT/PE's. I had that card, and it never spun up, except for the first 5 seconds or so in the BIOS. A buddy of mine is getting a XTX tomorrow, I plan to go see first hand the new card.

Cuz i paid $40 more for that leadtek than the other GTX's out there at the time. Dam morph......You have stock in ATI?

That tells me the heatsink was more expensive. I dont know how anyone could think the 512MB GTX heatsink wasnt more expensive that the reference design. Its bigger, has a bigger fan, and has heatpipes. Cards with it cost more. Sure looks to be more expensive than the reference design.

One key area I like about ATi's heatsink, is that all the air goes out the back of the PC. That, and it doesnt matter if something is 1/16" from the top, as the air flows thru the back, out of the front. With NV (and ATi cards without this heatsink) putting anything close to the card, hurts the air flow. I ran into this problem installing my X-Fi, with SLI. There was simply not enough room. So I had to get another SLI board, with more room inbetween.

Well that explains absolutely d!ck about why the X1800/1900's are buzzsaw loud.
Its just a poorly designed fan. It looks more like an impeller. The heatsink and housing itself look great, and especially the way it exhausts hot air.

F.Y.I. Dell sold the 7800GTX (regular) with that very same cooler that comes on the GTX512. I didn't see that card selling for 750.00 did you?

"ATI Tray Tools"...... not sure if it supports X1900XT yet, but i think the newest version does. This is a MUST have all-around tool for every ATI user btw.

As for my X850XT....fan is extremely loud at 100%, but 100% is totally unecessary and never used....i use ATT to switch fan higher depending on GPU temp....5, 32, 36, max i put is 59% when GPU core temp reaches 99 degrees. Its NOT extremely loud, also not extremely quiet.

ALso...wait for the arctic silencers for the X1900XT, i dont know if they're out already.

Try it.

One of the review I read (I can't remember which one) said that the X1900's cooler is actually more effective, exhausting the hot air out of the case is a definite advantage but the housing looks like cheap plastic which looks to me like the source of the problem.

Is that statement from your own benching? Most of the reviews I've seen show the X1900XTX leading by at least 1000 points. Some guys have scored ~11,900 with a stock FX-60 and stock clocked single cards. Not that 3DMark is everything but I'm sure you want your money's worth.

As far as noise goes, if you're brave I've seen some guys mount Zalman CNPS7000ALCU sinks on their cards. Whisper quiet and very effective. Load temps around 53-55C with an X1800XT. They just used the mounting parts from a VF700 and the 7000ALCU mounted right on. You just have to cut some of the fins away to clear the PCI slot underneath it.

Ummm yes....my own benching. I running a amd dual core at 2.5......the difference is about 300 in my set up.

G70 7800GTX 512MB short coming are in new games ;! if it can don't HDR , SM3.0 + AA at the same time , it fails as future proof investment. games like oblivion , UT2007 and other take real advantage of HDR/SM3 ! and you want to play them with AA :! so investing in a sick a 7800GTX 512 x2 $750 = $1500 :? is it worth it. I don't think the problem will be even solved in G71. but wait for the fanboy to go ... its got 32 pipeline.

Im no fanboi of either card maker...i just get whats the best for me is at the moment....and the x1900xtx for my dell 30" works nicely however i have to really strong feeling that the G71 is going to blow people away. Nvidia has made no noise in ATI's launch cuz i really think they are not worried or stressed at all. They are working on something pretty sick i tell ya.

i never said your a fanboy :! what are Nvidia going to make nosie about... wait for G71 in early march :? ... Anyways if think X1900XT are loud. I would really love to see a cooling system on G71 since each 32 pipeline are suppose to be clocked 700MHZ : ?.. Anyways ! What case do you have :?
ATI also has one wild card up there selves for G71 counter attack. they can easily release a card by mid march that could outperform Nvidia G71 :! X1900XT PE anyone :?

They are barely edging out the G70 and you think they can just up the clocks a little and beat G71? I wont speculate, we can wait and see.

Nvidias cards are not quiet becuse of low heat output, they are quiet because the heatsink design is better and they use a larger lower RPM fan. ATi for some reason has still been using small high RPM whiny fans.
