Wow. When your insurance goes up, try seeing if another company will give you a better rate. How old are you?

I just gotta say though, Spork gets its revenge. Kidding aside, glad to hear you're ok man.

I'm 24... if the rates look they're going to jump a lot, i may give progressive a call -- i've already got my bike insuranced through them.

yeah, i'll have to wait and see what they do with the nissan first -- and assuming they total it, i'll have to see what they give me for it before i start thinking about what cars i will actually be able to afford.

<Honda Fanboy> *lurks and waits* I will convert you!

You're lucky you didn't get charged with anything. Sorry about the car man.

thats was what i was thinking -- although i'm not sure what i could have been charged with other than possibly speeding (assuming the onramp speed limit was 45) -

i'm more worried about how this will effect my insurance payments... i dont think state farm is going to like hearing about this a whole lot.

Something like Failure to control your vehicle. I'm not making that up.

Your insurance will go up. I doubt it'll be pretty.

Affect. 😛

thankfully i've never had a speeding ticket / accident / or anything on my record before and my current rates aren't that high... I'm completely expecting them to double though.

Maybe i'll just ditch the car a while and stick to riding the Ninja full time... I'm sure that'd be really fun when it drops down into the 20's next week. :Q

I wouldn't touch a bike in this area with the expected weather. Although, the skies look fairly clear for a few days atleast.

Bite me. Hondas are too small for normal sized MEN. 😉

VWs are for people who like going in for repairs twice a month and not even having a BMW to show for it. 😛

Learn to change the bulbs yourself and you won't have to go in so often Miss Phoenix.

The Jetta GLI is sweet man. 😎

maybe with the matching rainbow sticker on the back.. 😉

j/k.. VW's aren't bad,.... i've just seen way to many things go wrong with them and my family has had to go through some very bad experiences with the local VW dealerships and service depts.

once they get they're dealerships in line and smooth out thier quality control - i may consider giving VW a chance.

I've had no major issues since 89 that weren't the fault of the owner. 😛

EDIT: Er, immediate family I mean. 😱

You know, taking out the "Check Engine" light doesn't mean you've fixed your car. 😛

I only had that go on once on my Golf, and that was because of a known recall. Not bad for 4 and a half years.

Ah, the Golf is actually pretty good. Probably the only VW I'd ever consider, except I really don't like the styling.

Not enough VW owners have had your luck though.

Sorry to hear. I'm not a big fan of Spec Vs, but I'm glad you made it out alright. My friend spun his ~2 months ago and nearly died after hitting a lightpole.

BTW Ralli, just looked it up and it seems that some companies will total your car if repairs are 51% or more of its value. You might be able to unload it after all... check with your company's policy.

FWD car. You should have floored the throttle which would have caused understeer and caused the front end to drift wide. By letting off the gas, you caused the car to tuck in and tighten its line, thereby causing it to strike the inner guardrail. Lifting the throttle will _always_ cause the car to tighten its turn.

With the driving lesson over, I'm very glad to hear that you're OK and that no-one got injured.

I'm not so worried about other VW owners. I got rid of the golf last month. 😀

interesting... sort of makes sense and i'll remember that if i'm ever in that situation again.

recent picture 🙁-- actually after looking at the picture, its not recent at all --- that was just after i bought it and i was still in my sticker's are cool phase. 😱

Hey Rallispec..when you lost control after running over something..was your front end or your rear end starting to slip which made you tuck into the turn tighter?

I'd have a tough time being certain (my main concern at the time was "oh sh1t i'm about to hit a wall)

I think the front tires slipped which cause the car to skid.. then the front tires grabbed the road real quick which flung the back tires to the outside and caused the nose of my car to rub the inside barrier.

I was just about to order new tires too becuase the kumho's that i had on it were really crappy and wore out really fast... so i'm sure that was a huge factor in this as well. Although they had a decent amount of tread left.

See if the front tires were skidding inward and you floor it as zenmervolt suggested (which would be my first thought to do as well) you would shift the weight from the front onto the rear tires making the situation worse..Usually when a FWD car loses it..it's the rear wheels that break free so that's why you floor it to shift the weight back there.

It's a very intense balancing act to handle a car on the edge like that..especially on public roads...

lifting off allowed your front tires to bite the road again...but you were rotating so much that now the rear tires gave which was when you needed to floor it...but..you did the best you could manage...

As far as resale value..The 02 Spec V is worth less than you priced at. My friend sold his and got 10K for it with 30-40 thousand miles on it and he had nicer wheels on it too...

yeah, thats just what i saw on carmax after a quick search-- the KBB value was closer to $10k which is what i was expecting.

As far as things went though -- it could have been a lot worse. I'm sure I could have regained control of my car if i had time to think about --- but my brain just reacted in self preservation mode rather than 'lets think rationally' mode....

I was really hoping to get out and do some solo II races this spring... this might be putting a damper on my autocross hopes for my immediate future.

How about getting a Mini Cooper S? 😀

no i think on fwd the front breaks free. understeer, it tries to go straight instead of turn so he hits the guard rail. wheels deliver both power and turn..lots of work. rwd the rear breaks free and the rear end tries to pass the front in a spin, thats not nice either.
