Facts:
SOYO Dragon+ (266)
DDR 2700 Samsung
XP2000 @ 1815 (FSB 145)
runing for 10 months

Cronology:
Two weeks ago, the system rebooted during normal operation.
Last week, it rebooted 3 times (diferent days) and frozen one time
(I had to reboot it).
I wondered if PS could be the problem, but I didn't move.
Yesterday it rebooted 4 times. When I tryed to start it up, I got an
CMOS memory Checksum error. I bypassed the problem (F1 - fail
security mode), started Windows and made some backups.
By the book, the procedure was clear CMOS memory.
I followed the procedures (change J5 jumper + wait at least 5 seconds).
When I tried to start up again, it "powered up, beeeeeped and
shutdown by itself".
I repeat the operation 6-7 times (clear CMOS + startup + remove/put
memory stick) and no results.
At the 7-8th attempt, the machine started up but still with CMOS memory
Checksum error.
I bypassed with F1 and, following the manual, I prepared a floppy to flash
bios with the last version and underclock the GF4 to default settings.
I restarted the box but it didn't come back (the same beeeeep problem).
I tried more 15 times.

Drama:
I tested the memory stick in a friend's machine. It's working perfectly.
I don't believe my GF4ti4200 could be the problem.

The manual's troubleshooting is weak but it gives me the following
possibilities/course of action about power on, no video and beeps:

- Clear CMOS battery (already done)
- Check all jumper settings on the MoBo (I didn't touch on it, but it`s done)
- Check the Memory module and de VGA card if inserted properly (done)
- Change the memory module , it might be defective (I'll try tonight but I'm
not sure about success - considering that my stick is working in another
machine)
- Change the VGA card (I'll try tonight too but I don't believe too)

About the CMOS checksum error it says:

- clear CMOS memory (already done)
- re-flash BIOS (impossible)
- Change the CMOS battery (I'll try tonight)
- the BIOS chip might be failing (OMG !!!)

The two times I could acess bios, I checked temps and they were fine.

Is there a failing/defective PS possibility too ?

What do you think ? Any suggestions ? Heeeeelp!

Thanks in Advance.

Last night tests:

I changed CMOS battery...the same: powered up,
beeeeeped and auto power off
I tried ATX power connector from my friend's rig...idem
I simply remove memory stick...idem
I put my friend's memory stick...idem
I simply removed VGA card... idem
I tried a VGA PCI card...idem
I changed keyboard... idem
I tried without keyboard... idem

My GF4Ti4200 worked fine on my friend's box.
My memory stick worked fine too.
His box worked fine using "my" ATX power connector.
The Soyo's FOC protection is disabled.
During those few seconds, all coolers are working:
NB, CPU and Case Fans.

So...is this the end ?!? :(

It sounds to me like a software problem if you say that every thing else is working ok. Have you scanned for viruses also, make sure you don't have a hidden virus in that machine.

:D
I am so stupid !!!
As I cleaned up the CMOS, all bios settings were lost...
including FOC setup (which default is "enable").

My Heatsink's fan is a PAPST without rpm monitor. Mobo's FOC
considered that the fan was dead so it gave the "beeeeeeeep"
and shutdown in sequence to protect the CPU.

I didn´t figure it out until read again the manual. How could
I forget this?!? When I put everything togheter I had to bypass
the FOC...but I forgot it completely !!! The MoBo's manual
don´t mention in its problems and issues chapter this kind of
problem... the same happens in the Online support assistance guide.

I bypassed the FOC pressing INS and disabled it in the BIOS.
I flashed the BIOS (now running 2ba6) and aparently everything is
running fine :D (6 hours of HotCPU + 3 hours of Sandra's
stress test).

I still at standard timings and will monitor its behaviour closely.
If in a week no problems come up, I´ll back to OC'ed configuration.

Thanks to everybody.

:)

Yup, I was gonna say the FOC until I got to the last post. Too bad I didn't see this earlier, I had the same problem with my Dragon Ultra.
