Facts:
SOYO Dragon+ (266)
DDR 2700 Samsung
XP2000 @ 1815 (FSB 145)
runing for 10 months
Cronology:
Two weeks ago, the system rebooted during normal operation.
Last week, it rebooted 3 times (diferent days) and frozen one time
(I had to reboot it).
I wondered if PS could be the problem, but I didn't move.
Yesterday it rebooted 4 times. When I tryed to start it up, I got an
CMOS memory Checksum error. I bypassed the problem (F1 - fail
security mode), started Windows and made some backups.
By the book, the procedure was clear CMOS memory.
I followed the procedures (change J5 jumper + wait at least 5 seconds).
When I tried to start up again, it "powered up, beeeeeped and
shutdown by itself".
I repeat the operation 6-7 times (clear CMOS + startup + remove/put
memory stick) and no results.
At the 7-8th attempt, the machine started up but still with CMOS memory
Checksum error.
I bypassed with F1 and, following the manual, I prepared a floppy to flash
bios with the last version and underclock the GF4 to default settings.
I restarted the box but it didn't come back (the same beeeeep problem).
I tried more 15 times.
Drama:
I tested the memory stick in a friend's machine. It's working perfectly.
I don't believe my GF4ti4200 could be the problem.
The manual's troubleshooting is weak but it gives me the following
possibilities/course of action about power on, no video and beeps:
- Clear CMOS battery (already done)
- Check all jumper settings on the MoBo (I didn't touch on it, but it`s done)
- Check the Memory module and de VGA card if inserted properly (done)
- Change the memory module , it might be defective (I'll try tonight but I'm
not sure about success - considering that my stick is working in another
machine)
- Change the VGA card (I'll try tonight too but I don't believe too)
About the CMOS checksum error it says:
- clear CMOS memory (already done)
- re-flash BIOS (impossible)
- Change the CMOS battery (I'll try tonight)
- the BIOS chip might be failing (OMG !!!)
The two times I could acess bios, I checked temps and they were fine.
Is there a failing/defective PS possibility too ?
What do you think ? Any suggestions ? Heeeeelp!
Thanks in Advance.
