My shower's coldest setting is scorching hot. Anything I can do?

In exchange for a working solution to this problem, I will reveal to you the secret of life.

make sure the cold valve is all the way on at the wall...

edit for a shower most times the valves are in the wall...

Has any work been done recently on the shower? Sounds like the insert for the faucet no longer is blocking the appropriate hot/cold water. Sounds like you might need a new insert. They run about $18 if your bath faucet is by Moen.

call the guy who fixes tubs. i had this problem where no matter where i turned the knob the water always remained hot .... or always cold

turn it to the hottest setting.....maybe they're reversed 😀
lol - after five years in this house, that would be embarassing. It would also imply I haven't showered in that long a time. :Q

It is a Moen faucet. It's only lately that it's been this warm - but it's always been much warmer than the other shower in the house. I'm going to look into changing the insert, thanks. 🙂

Are you trying to make me associate with a tubboy? Tubgrrl was bad enough, thank you very much!

what kind of moen faucet is it? some have cartridges or inserts you can change out if they get clogged.. this can lead to leaks or water temperature imbalances... there are some moen faucets that also have 2 plastic rings that lock into eachother. The smaller one has a notch that stops the faucet from turning past a certain point. Its supposed to stop the faucet from getting too hot, but if it was set wrong it might make it always too hot.

If you want to do it yourself, turn off the water (at the main), disassemble, take the parts to your local hardware store (if you don't find a piece of crud clogging things up & fix it upon disassembly).

If you can snap a pic to take along it might be helpful.

Is it a single lever faucet or double?

this is happened to me. you over-torque it constantly, don't you? you need to take the screw out of the knob, rotate it slightly, then put it back in and tighten it. hopefully you haven't worn it out. if you have, you'll have to replace the knob.

The Smallest Thing That's Known to Man

The smallest thing that's known to man's a subatomic particle measured scientifically under lab conditions to be ten centimetres taken to the minus thirteenth power
But though this thing is very small it's really not that small at all compared to the line that is ever so fine, that seperates the hot from the cold on the handle of my shower
But even if you manage to adjust it just exactly like you like it there are still one hundred thousand different combinations different permutations things which can and maybe will go wrong
Like when I'm in the shower with the woman that I love, and just at the moment of extreme excitation some guy in the apartment below turns his dishwasher on.
And the water comes out cold and my woman goes eek! and steps on the soap nearly breaks her neck as it was she only suffered from some minor scrapes and bruises because just as she was falling she made a desperate grab for the nearest thing around her so that no fatal harm would occur
which was fortunate for her but unfortunate for me cause the thing she made a grab for happened to be something near and dear to both of us tho' to be fair she wasn't thinking how extremely dear it was to me as how conveniently near it was to her
But it's an interesting biologic metabolic fundamnetal scientific not to say a physiological fact
That when subjected to the stimulus of sub-zero h2o the male private areas have the tendency to rapidly contract.
So this is what they did, and that is why she missed them, made a grab behind them, what it was she finally caught
Was the handle of my shower which she twisted as she fell past the smallest thing that's known to man and suddenly the water came out ...Hot
And I went eek! and I fainted unconcious and my woman got me outa there and twe weeks later my poor private areas finally got the courage to emerge tho' even now they haven't yet regained their normal size and weight and span
In fact for a while there they had successfully broken all previous world records for the smallest thing that's known to man.

there is a gasket inside the faucet that has probably worn out causing the hot water to flow regardless of the position of the controller. you can buy a new part at HD for about 10 and fix it in about 45 minutes.

No question, that's the coolest thing I've ever read. 11/10 etc., etc.

don't mean to hijack, but is there anything i can do if my shower is too cold even on the hottest setting? the water heater is turned up all the way and the water is only hot for like 3 minutes then it gets ice cold... sucks!
