I had an Asus PC-DL, dual 1.6 Xeons OC'd to a max of 3.4Ghz, stable at 3.2, ran it at 3.0Ghz though most of the time. Well the board bit the dust, southbridge is crazy overheating even when the rig is off. I am thinking I can probablly get the board RMA'd. But I don't want to wait that long, I am incthing for something new, and I never really got the thing fully stable like I like it. It would prime forever at the speeds I listed. But then just randomly on rare occasions it would freeze or reboot. I think it was probablly cause the board wasn't giving enough juice to the memory.
Anyways, the rest of my stuff I will probablly keep sinc eobviously the optical and hard drives and sound car and whatnot can be reused. The video card I have not decided on yet. Its and AGP 6600GT. I am just wondering if its wise to stick with AGP, since PCI express is the furture. Although probablly the next time I upgrade, i will upgrade everything, so it probablly won't make a differance. I also know there is a MB or 2 that have both AGP and PCI-E. And while I don't have to, I would prefer to buy from Microcenter They are local, so no waiting for shipping, and I work for a sister company of them, so I get a 25% discount. But if its still cheaper after shipping and everything, then I can definately buy online. Or if there is just nothing at MC worth a darn.
So, I am undecided on pretty much everything. I prefer AMD, but will not turn down intel if it is bets for me. I know my current rig is a dually, but I went that way cause it was cheap. I don't need a dually or dual core, but they are nice, so maybe.
Basically I do normal day to day stuff, web browsing, email, Mp3's, word processing, stuff like that. I do game, but nto very much, right now I am playing AOE3, and black and white 2. The last game I played prior to those was probablly like Star wars Jedi Outcast or something, so like I said, I am not a huge gamer, but it would be nice to be able to play the occasional game if I wanted to. I do some video encoding as well, more then I game, but still not a ton. I may eventually use the rig for HTPC tasks as well.
Not sure what else to say, just looking for some opinions on whats hot to get right now. Mainly looking at motherboard/CPU's and maybe video cards. Need any more info just ask. Going to eat dinner, be back soon.
