My respect for AROD (other than his baseball ability) is just about at zero.

I'm a Yankees and Cardinals fan. Yeah, I know I'll hear it about being a bandwagon fan, but when you grow up in St. Louis and idolize Don Mattingly, you don't start hating a team because their owner buys championships.

Anyway, the main point is that it's insulting that a guy that was born here, works here, and lives here most of the year wants to represent another country at a World Game. Maybe you hate this country, but I don't. I just don't see what's so wrong with America that he doesn't want to be associated with us.

You guys are blowing this out of proportion. Where did he say he didn't want to be associated with america? My gut feeling is that he'll end up playing for US after all is said and done.

One thing I think most of you don't understand, is that when you come from an immigrant family (1st or 2nd gen) you still have pretty strong ties to your home country.

You don't know much about baseball, do you? A player is allowed to plow into the catcher at home plate. A player is not allowed to plow into another player at any other base.

No, he's a selfish, egotistical prick who thinks that it's ok to cheat and still get away with it. He still never apologized for last year's ALCS stunt (and still to this day says there's nothing wrong with it, he'll do whatever it takes to win, even cheat), and on top of that thinks he's better than players with kids (i.e. his comments: while you're taking your kids to school in the morning, I'm working out!). He's not a team player, that's why Jeter hates him. And it's why I thank God every day he plays for the Yankees and continues to suck the life out of them financially and spiritually.

Yes he puts up decent numbers, but no team has ever won a championship with him, not even the highest payroll team on the planet.

 Wow dude big deal. What is the big deal about what he did in the ALCS? Is it cheating when a guy on 3rd runs into the catcher with the intent of knocking the ball out of his glove? How is this any different? There were plenty of players/oldtimers (like Joe Morgan) who said that they would have done the same thing as Arod. And how do you know that Jeter hates him? Do you talk to him? Everything that Jeter has said seems to indicate that Arod is good friend and a great teammate? Egotistical? Wonder what happened to his ego when he saved that kid in Boston from getting hit by a car? How do you know that hes not a team player? Has a Yankee told you about this? Sucking the life out of them? Without him the Yankees would be 2nd to last place in their division. How is he hurting them financially? The team has a $200 million dollar payroll and he only accounts for about 8 to 9% of it. I wish Sox fans would get over the failed Arod trade and stop bashing him because of that. If he were in a sox uniform today, I guarantee you there would be a line several miles long with sox fans trying to suck his cock.
What's the big deal about the ALCS fiasco?
a) He never apologized, in fact said he'd do it again if given the chance
b) It sets a bad example of how baseball is to be played, if my son ever did that he would be reprimanded by me and most other baseball purists would do the same for their kids
c) Nobody on the Yankees defended his actions, gee I wonder why? When did Jeter come out and say that he would have done the same thing? Class act.

He's not a team player, it's been stated by old Texas teammates. Ask Texas fans what they thought of him. Hell, my best friends are diehard Yankee fans and they hate him. When a team's fans are repeatedly telling you that they wish he was never picked up, that says something. Especially when he was talking out of his azz this past Spring Training.

Yes, he is a financial leech. He's overpaid, and if you don't think so then you don't know baseball. Jeter should be making more than him for what he does for the team.

If he was on the Red Sox I would hate him too, nobody cares that he went to the Yankees. We're too busy polishing our new rings, and framing pics of the Boston Globe and Herald.

I never said he didn't put up good numbers. But he's not clutch, and is a choker. Look at his stats during the most famous collapse in sports history. You're right, the Yankees would suck even worse than they already do this year w/out him. Somehow Boston is in first w/out a #1 starting pitcher, that should tell you something.

Maybe he thinks ARod should have drop kicked him instead? Or better yet, brought the bat with him from homeplate and jabbed the ball out of the glove!

Or maybe he just should've ran Arryo over (which is perfectly legal in baseball) breaking his arm and knocking him out of the game.

Oh, just get off you soap box would ya. You make it sound like he robbed a bank or something. Since the ALCS incident several prominent players said that what Arod did was right and he tried to help his team. So let me get this, do you get angry every time a catcher tries to frame a pitch to mae a ball look like a strike? What about when 2nd basemen try to ghost tag a basestealer making it look like he tagged him. What about all those pitchers using spitballs or all those batters corking their bats.

You hate the Yankees, we all know that and that's fine. But stop making up crap. You don't know sh*t, where did you get the idea that Jeter hates Arod, did the three of you discuss that during dinner last night? Of all the things other players do, I think Arod has to be considered one of the most decent human beings. He doesn't use steroids, he doesn't accuse his teammates. He doesn't require special treatment like, hmm lets see a certain Red Sox player that plays for the Mets now did. So take your propaganda stuff elsewhere. I thought maybe after Sox won the championshiop you'd be less bitter but apparently that loser attitude is something that's entrenched too deep inside the Red Sox nations.

P.S. No team that had Ted Williams, or Yaz has won a World Series either. They must be selfish players too I guess.
Framing a pitch isn't against the rules, neither is ghost tagging, it's smart and uses mental warfare to win. Just like getting into a player's head by throwing inside to them. Spitballs and corked bats are illegal, and that's why Sammy Sosa has no respect from me. How many players actually cheat? <3%, 4%? Regardless, it's low. And the ones that do cheat are scumsuckers, just like ARod. Giambi, Bonds, Sheffield, Donnelly, Gaylord Perry: scumsuckers. I suggest you pick up the latest issue of The Sporting News, it has the "unwritten rules" of baseball. Interesting read.

Yup, I do hate the Yankees, but I'm glad ARod is there.

It's well known that Jeter that doesn't like ARod. Do you actually live in NY? When did Jeter defend ARod's actions in the ALCS fiasco? Guess what, he refused to comment on it. Either you're living in a dream world or need to get your head checked, all my diehard Yankee friends said it's well known that Jeter doesn't like ARod. Of course there's no ESPN frontpage headline about it, turn on NY sportstalk once in a while.

It wasnt a fiasco, I havent heard anyone cry about it besides you.

a) He never apologized, in fact said he'd do it again if given the chance

So would everyone else.

b) It sets a bad example of how baseball is to be played, if my son ever did that he would be reprimanded by me and most other baseball purists would do the same for their kids

Hitting people with your catchers mask is a good example?

c) Nobody on the Yankees defended his actions, gee I wonder why? When did Jeter come out and say that he would have done the same thing? Class act.

There was nothing to be defended, he did nothing wrong.

I dont see any Yankee fans saying that.

Yes, he is a financial leech. He's overpaid, and if you don't think so then you don't know baseball. Jeter should be making more than him for what he does for the team.

Hicks is paying 50 to 60 million of the contract. Yankees are paying him less than Giambi and Jeter. I am a huge Yankee fan and a huge DJ fan, however I am not a idiot who thinks that Jeter is better than Arod. Just look at their career numbers.

If he was on the Red Sox I would hate him too, nobody cares that he went to the Yankees. We're too busy polishing our new rings, and framing pics of the Boston Globe and Herald.
Congrats on the championship. Preserving those articles for the next 80 some odd years?

Hes not clutch? How do you define clutch? Avg with RISP? If so please take a look at his avg with RISP and compare them to Jeter's.

This year:
HR RBI BB SO OBP AVG
RISP 4 45 21 24 .476 .301
RISP W/TWO OUT 3 22 11 11 .453 .310
BASES LOADED 1 12 2 1 .636 .500

Jeter

RISP 2 27 13 17 .341 .217
RISP W/TWO OUT 1 13 8 11 .319 .179
BASES LOADED 1 9 3 1 .500 .286

So much for being clutch huh?

turn on NY sportstalk once in a while.

I lived in NY for a long time and now I live 1 hour away from it, in the tri-state area. One thing you learn is to never trust anything you read/hear from NY media. They were talking trash about Tiki Barber for crying out loud, one of the best human beings to be around if you had privelege of meeting him. And if you're refering to Chris and Maddog show then the rule of thumb is to take everything they say and accept the exact opposite. I don't think there are two bigger clowns in sports than these pair.

Arod is a fine player, he's a little cheesy at times with his comments and I wish he dropped the good boy act but there's nothing wrong with him as a teammate. I'd take him on my team any day, he hustles every day, never takes a day off doesn't come up with mysterious injuries and gives his all. Isn't that what you ask of every player?

Grats man, apparently you win by being able to point out typos in my posts. Does your mommy give you a medal for brushing your teeth in the morning too?

I like how when you can't defend your argument you switch the focus by bringing up a typo or bad grammar. If this were an english class you'd get an A.

Pro sports suck anyway if you ask me.

"ROOT FOR THE HOME TEAM!!!"

How many people, if ANY playing on the home team are from THAT town, or even that state?

And the same can be said for the armature teams and college teams.

But then I care less than 0 for sports in general.

If you couldn't tell. ;)

Is that bad grammar? According to your own argument you must be wrong, right?

I'm getting all pissy because a bunch of know-it-alls try to talk trash about my team and its players without knowing much about them. I've been Yankees fan my whole life and I'll always back them up regardless of circumstances. How would you feel if somebody started a daily thread about how much of a punk Pedro is, or how ridiculously stupid Beltran signing was? Or maybe how Piazza has an arm of a 10 year old girl.

Not to sound like I'm complaining but this is what Yankee fans have to go through. If Yankees win everybody shrugs it off as "they just bought the victory". If they lose I get hundreds of e-mails titled "Money can't buy you championship". Seems like most fans are more concerned with the Yankees than their own teams.

What is your point? If you embrace the city you're currently living in, isn't that all that matters?

Oh yes, everyone should validate their home town and root the corresponding team only with birth certificate checks.

My point is ANY town with enough money can hire anyplayer to play there. That says what? That that town has enough money to hire that player, and that's all. So, based on that, why should I give a rats ass?

the point of the thread was that i felt as if A-Rod playing for the Dominican Team is a slap in the face being that the USA is the country that made him. Get over it. Do you make money off the yankees? i dont think so, so until then they are New Yorks Team, George Steinbrenners Team not YOURS. stop complaining, people have opinions. your opinions are great and I'm glad you are mature enough to have your own thoughts.

I'm willing to wager that you didnt start paying attention to the yankees until '95-'96, but you'll obviously deny that so nobody will ever know.

Your website says you were a HS sophomore in 1997, so you were a freshman in HS when the Yankees started winning championships. Logically, most of the Yankee fans you know wouldn't start being Yankee fans from beforehand because most people start getting their fandom for sports around that age. I assume you live in the NY area (since you're a Mets fan) so would you think it's unreasonable for them to start liking the Yankees? Especially when you consider the Mets' antics for most of, if not all, of the 1990s?

Personally I'm younger than you are, but I've been obsessed with baseball since I was 6 years old (thanks to my dad, who ironically doesn't even understand the game that well, he just used to take me to Yankee Stadium to watch some games.)

You say it yourself

Personally I'm younger than you are, but I've been obsessed with baseball since I was 6 years old (thanks to my dad, who ironically doesn't even understand the game that well, he just used to take me to Yankee Stadium to watch some games.)

so your saying that you were special enough to become a fan at 6, but everyone else at 16? sophomore year?

and the majority of kids ive hung out with my whole life are 1-5 years older than myself, so don't assume and generalize!
