I never understood snakes as pets - they are cold and unfeeling it seems.

well i couldnt have a dog (have severe allergies) and hate cats. plus i think snakes are neat.

Now i am NOT into the huge anaconda (yes you can buy those) or such. I have a few ball pythons and a yellow belly racer (gardner snake).

Its a lot of fun to have the snake around your shoulders when you answere the door.

No offense meant, I just personally never connected with them.

I have severe cat allergies as well, don't have the time or patience to train a dog for apartment life, don't have a farm (would love a goat as a pet). The gerbils are my 'son's' pets. He takes awesome care of them, and they are hand tame. I inherited the cockatiel, I'm convinced it will outlive me haha, and the rats are something I've always done. The beta was from one I rescued from a pet store accident (don't ask). . .

Neat about the hedgies. . . guess I met a shy one (pet store life would do that to most animals).

One animal I'd love to try is a chinchilla. They always seem so skittish though. I've never seen one cuddle.

TO the African Gray guy, yea they are neat birds. I've got a friend that has one and a conure. They crack me up, but they are very high maintainaince.

heh i live on a farm now.

we HAD a cow as a pet. I got it from the guy down the street. he raised the cow with some dogs he had from the time it was born. the darn thing thought it was a dog. to bad it died a few years ago.

we were going to get some goats, miniture horse (whatever they are called), and whatever else we found.

But we are selling the farm and moving into a real house. so i can't do that now heh

I've got a genius grey named Louie. He knows about 50 words that he uses in sentences and such. He knows all of our dogs by name, calls the cats then proceeds to attack them, and he calls all of us by name. He's very very smart and articulate! He's young to know all of this too, about 2-3 years!

Why would you move from the farm to a 'real house' (no need to reply if money related, then I understand) . ..

pretty much it. I baught the house thinking i could fix it up. But the cost and the time (have a 2 year old now) are more then i thought.

though when i say a real house its still in a small town (maybe 100 people) and the i still will have over 2 acres of land. But not enough to play with like the farm had.

Goats are AWESOME pets! I've got two of them that we bottlefed, and they're just like puppies! Plus, they're like the stupidest animals in the world, so they're entertaining!

My friend's gray asks for food, calls my friend's name, "hums the star trek theme" . . . I told him leave it to him to turn the bird into a trekkie . . .

He knows a ton of nonsense whistles, and imitates the neighbor's barking dog too. It is a trip to see a bird barking . . .

My bird barks and meows too. When the dogs go nuts he barks right along with them..it can get annoying with 7 dogs + Louie barking:p

I dunno why, big birds intimidate me. Cockatiels are ok, but that gray looks like he could evisercate me at will. There is a pet store locally and the guy has a store pet, a large scarlet macaw, and I give it 'wide bearth'.

My brother had a rat, it lived concurrently with my dog from the day she was 5 years until about 8 years. They played together, it was really funny since the dog completely dwarfed this little rat. My dog never attacked the rat, but tried to sniff and nudge the rat, who would freeze when he got so scared....my dog would just push him around on the floor with her nose. It was very cute, and occasionally the rat tried to scale the dog by jumping onto her back, and obviously she didn't like that and would shake him off.....at some point the dog was scared of the rat, a David vs. Goliath type situation for sure

Sorry to hear about your rat.. they do make nice pets. Seems like all the ones we have had either died from tumors or respiratory illnesses.

We had one of the rats with tumors operated on, it was not worth it as the surgery seemed painful and the next batch of tumors came shortly after its recovery.
